New River Community Action's Homeless and Housing Programs offer financial services to those at-risk of becoming homeless (Prevention) and those already homeless (Rapid Rehousing) to help them obtain or maintain permanent housing. Clients must meet strict grant criteria to receive financial services through Homeless and Housing Programs and adhere to program policies and guidelines for continuing services. When available, funding is used for participant financial assistance in the form of rent deposits and last month's rent, rent payments, utility deposits and utility arrears, utility payments, and application fees. MedSTAR Transport patients each year to and from MedStar Health facilities throughout the Baltimore and greater Washington, D.C., area. The fleet includes both state-of-the-art medevac helicopters and ambulances. Patients are transported between hospitals in the MedStar Health system and other major tertiary care centers in the Mid-Atlantic region as directed by the sending and receiving physicians. Medical control physicians are immediately available 24 hours a day for consultation with referring physicians and flight crews. Some patients are transported from accident scenes to the closest Level One Trauma Center in coordination with local EMS systems.

Hope Center Ministries offers a 12-month residential recovery program for individuals seeking freedom from substance use disorders. The service provides a structured, live-in environment that includes vocational training, life skills development, and faith-based support. Participants follow a daily schedule focused on building accountability, routine, and personal responsibility. The program also coordinates with courts, probation officers, and referral partners when applicable, offering a consistent setting that supports long-term recovery and successful reintegration into the community.

Offers youth, ages 17-21, an opportunity to live in an apartment setting and begin to learn the skills necessary to transition to adulthood. The Independent Living program provides individual and group training opportunities to help youth develop practical life skills and achieve educational and employment goals. Nonresidential Independent Living Skill Training is also available on an individual and group basis for youth not placed in our program.

James House provides emergency shelter for women, men, and children in danger due to domestic violence or sexual violence. The temporary emergency shelter provides survivors of domestic and sexual violence a safe environment with access to counseling, case management, and other forms of support and information to assist them in achieving independence.
