The Salvation Army Men's Shelter provides shelter for single men experiencing homelessness. Residents of the shelter receive crisis housing, breakfast and dinner, housing-focused case management, connection to employment opportunities, substance abuse counseling, and mental health support.

Provides food, shelter, medical care and companionship to the homeless and unwanted companion pets of our area. Offers humane education, pet assisted therapy, meaningful volunteer experiences, and pet/owner training classes. Emphasizes the importance of the human/animal bond and help to create loving relationships between pet and guardian. We provide financially based pet safety net services to keep pets and their guardians together. Services include, but are not limited to, veterinary care support, behavior support, temporary fostering, pet deposit assistance and pet food assistance.

The environmental health programs include lead exposure, food establishment inspections, rabies prevention, sewage and water permits and complaint investigations. Both nurses and environmental health specialists work together to investigate communicable diseases, including outbreaks.

HCS is the sole treatment provider for the Washington County Drug Recovery and Monitoring Court (DREAM COURT), under the leadership of the sitting Washington County Circuit Court Judge. The DREAM Court Program is a three phase program lasting 12-24 months for adult criminal offenders who are experiencing drug and/or alcohol dependence problems. The program requires frequent Court appearances, random drug and alcohol screenings, individualized substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment, and intensive supervision. Clinical assessments are provided for all potential participants, some of which will be provided pre-release from the Southwestern Virginia Regional Jail. Appropriate case management services are also provided to assist participants in identifying and accessing appropriate systems of support.

TriCities Hospital offers a variety of mental health services for adults, to include: crisis stabilization (inpatient services), mental health partial hospitalization program, mental health intensive outpatient program and trauma-focused intensive outpatient program.

Vital Records provides information and forms to utilize in securing birth certificates and establishments of paternity. Issues death certificates for all deaths occurring in the city/county. Section 8 Rental Housing for lower-income residents of our community, in partnership with Virginia Housing and Development Authority. Units for 30 families two-four bedrooms; and 40 one and two bedroom apartments for the elderly, handicapped or disabled individuals.

Helpline provides emotional support to the caller as well as information about Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, chapter services, and community resources. They also maintain updated information on community resources such as home care, adult day care, care coordination, assisted living, skilled nursing facilities, elder care lawyers, financial planners, and transportation, additionally, they can help individuals with Alzheimer's disease and their families assess whether a specific care providers can meet their individual needs.

Funds companion services for limited hours each week. Assists SSI recipients (aged, disabled, blind) with personal care or light housekeeping tasks. Seeks to prevent institutionalization.

Annual kindergarten registration and orientation event will take place at all of the division's elementary schools (except for B.F. Williams and Newtown) Parents can register their child for kindergarten at any time leading up to the school year, this event will include an open house for future students and their parents, tours of the school and an overview of the kindergarten program. Students will get to experience a school bus ride while parents fill out the necessary forms. Additional activities will vary by school.
