There is no income guideline requirement, however, clients must have a disconnect notice. EnergyShare intake agencies determine eligibility for EnergyShare and may have additional requirements when qualifying customers for this program.

MED-RIDE is a local transportation program designed to serve those persons in the New River Valley who do not drive or have access to a ride and cannot afford public means of transportation. MED-RIDE serves persons regardless of age or income level. This program relies on qualified volunteer drivers and community support. MED-RIDE coordinates with partner agencies to provide transportation, including wheelchair accessible vehicles, for individuals to get to their health-related services. Behavioral Health Services (BHS) offers a broad scope of outpatient mental health counseling services for children (ages five and up), adolescents, adults, families, and couples.

Offers subsidized child day care services to income-eligible clients through various programs. Applicants must meet eligibility criteria. Services are available as funding allows.

Respite Services include short-term relief for primary caregivers of individuals with disabilities by trained staff of The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham. Respite is conducted in the participants' home and allows caregivers to attend to daily needs such as grocery shopping and personal doctors appointments while Direct Service Professionals care for and engage with their adult child(ren).

The Energy Assistance Program (EAP)consists of three components; Fuel Assistance (FA), Coolng Assistance (CA) and Emergency Crisis Assistance (CAP). The FA component is intended to provide supplemental assistance to offset the rising costs of heating expenses. The CAP component is intended to provide assistance with heating equipment needs and emergency fuel outages. Fuel Assistance opens the second Tuesday in October. The last day for applying is the second Friday in November. Main Qualifications: Have a heating need, meet the income and resource levels, include all persons living in the household, live in an eligible living arrangement and meet the citizenship requirements. Crisis Assistance applicants must meet the following: income level, resource level. Deposits: Opens the first working day in November. May only receive once per lifetime per fuel type. (Natural gas, electric and LP gas) Heating Equipment: Opens November 1st or the first working day in November for Replacement, purchase, or repair of primary heating source. Primary Fuel: Opens the first working day in January. It is for those that did not receive fuel assistance. Requires cut off notice for electric and gas. Almost out of fuel oil, wood, coal or island purchased kerosene. Cooling Assistance: Is offered during the beginning in mid-June. Must meet eligibility requirements

The team looks at all areas of a person’s life to help them live more independently and confidently.

Head Start and Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) provides preschool for the children of Spotsylvania County who will be age four on or before September 30th for the school year prior to kindergarten. Both programs are based on income and other child and family factors.

Wheelchair accessible vehicle service is offered for trips within the City of Harrisonburg. Scheduling of trips is required 24 hours in advance. You must have the correct amount for your fare as the driver will not make change. HDPT paratransit service is curb to curb service.
