Case managers complete annual assessments, link clients to services, make home and on-site visits to programs, and coordinate and facilitate team reviews.

All individuals must have a personal interview and complete a volunteer training course on hospice care, dealing with such topics as death and dying, family dynamics, communications skills, spiritual care, the grief process and the role of the volunteer. Adult Protective Services investigates reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults 60 years of age or older and incapacitated adults age 18 or older. If protective services are needed and accepted by the individual, a wide range of services to stop the mistreatment or prevent further mistreatment are available. These services include social and legal services, emergency assistance and assistance in obtaining other forms of substitute decision making, including guardianship. The Energy Assistance Program (EAP)consists of three components; Fuel Assistance (FA), Coolng Assistance (CA) and Emergency Crisis Assistance (CAP). The FA component is intended to provide supplemental assistance to offset the rising costs of heating expenses. The CAP component is intended to provide assistance with heating equipment needs and emergency fuel outages. Fuel Assistance opens the second Tuesday in October. The last day for applying is the second Friday in November. Main Qualifications: Have a heating need, meet the income and resource levels, include all persons living in the household, live in an eligible living arrangement and meet the citizenship requirements. Crisis Assistance applicants must meet the following: income level, resource level. Deposits: Opens the first working day in November. May only receive once per lifetime per fuel type. (Natural gas, electric and LP gas) Heating Equipment: Opens November 1st or the first working day in November for Replacement, purchase, or repair of primary heating source. Primary Fuel: Opens the first working day in January. It is for those that did not receive fuel assistance. Requires cut off notice for electric and gas. Almost out of fuel oil, wood, coal or island purchased kerosene. Cooling Assistance: Is offered during the beginning in mid-June. Must meet eligibility requirements. Provides a free nutrition program for low-income pregnant, lactating and postpartum women and children up to age 5. Recipients receive education, breast-feeding support, nutritional screening and high-quality nutritional care and food. The program provides milk, cheese, eggs, juice, cereal, dried beans or peas, peanut butter and iron-fortified formula that supply crucial nutrients such as protein, iron, calcium and vitamins A and C essential to maintain health. The Virginia WIC Program (the special supplemental nutrition program for Women, Infants and Children) is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is operated through local health departments and satellite and mobile clinics in Virginia.

The Virginia Bleeding Disorders Program is a legislatively enacted program through the Virginia Department of Health, Division of Child and Adolescent Health, for the care and treatment of persons with hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. Virginia recognizes that the ongoing medical costs of treating such bleeding disorders often exceed the financial capacity of families, despite insurance coverage. The program supports a system of coordinated, family-oriented, multidisciplinary services for persons of all ages with bleeding disorders.
