Appalachian Power and Dollar Energy Fund have teamed up to offer assistance to our neighbors in need. Assists low-income Appalachian Power customers who have difficulty paying their electric bill. Eligible customers will receive a utility assistance grant applied directly to their Appalachian Power bill to help maintain or restore basic electric service (up to $300 per calendar year). Eligible customers will have a household income at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. Available to customers who may not be eligible for the Energy Assistance Program. Grants are dispersed on a first-come first-serve basis to eligible applicants and are based on funding availability.

Provides a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) for all special education children ages two to twenty-one. An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed for each child who qualifies for special education services under IDEA. Circuit Court for Alleghany County within the 25th Judicial Circuit of Virginia. The circuit court is the trial court with the broadest powers in Virginia. The circuit court handles all civil cases with claims of more than $15,000. It shares authority with the general district court to hear matters involving claims between $4,500 and $15,000. The circuit court has the authority to hear serious criminal cases called felonies. The circuit court also handles family matters, including divorce. In addition, the circuit court hears cases appealed from the general district court and from the juvenile and domestic relations district court.

The Energy Assistance Program consists of three components: Fuel Assistance assists low-income eligible households by supplementing home energy costs. Applications are accepted the second Tuesday in October through the second Friday in November. Crisis Assistance assists low-income households with energy related emergencies. Applications are accepted November 1st through March 15th. Cooling Assistance assists households in acquiring or repairing cooling equipment and /or payment of electric bills to operate cooling equipment. MED-RIDE is a local transportation program designed to serve those persons in the New River Valley who do not drive or have access to a ride and cannot afford public means of transportation. MED-RIDE serves persons regardless of age or income level. This program relies on qualified volunteer drivers and community support. MED-RIDE coordinates with partner agencies to provide transportation, including wheelchair accessible vehicles, for individuals to get to their health-related services.
