Provides assistance to Nelson County residents in accordance with Federal Programs such as Food Stamps/SNAP, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Child Day Care Subsidies, Cooling Assistance, Fuel Assistance, Crisis Fuel Assistance, Auxiliary Grants, Medicaid, FAMIS, General Relief, Refugee Assistance, Holiday Assistance, Job Services,Companion Care, Adoption, Foster Care, Family Support Services, Adult Services, Adult Protective Services and Child Protective Services.

The Bedford County Board of Supervisors is the legislative and governing body of Bedford County and consists of seven members representing seven districts. Supervisors serve four-year staggered terms. During the first meeting in January, the chair and vice chair are elected by and from the Board of Supervisors.

Provides immigration legal services to low-income immigrants and refugees by staff attorneys and volunteers. Serves all faiths and nationalities. Offers educational programs for groups and churches on immigrant issues.

The Franklin Department of Parks & Recreation offers a well-rounded yearly program of leisure time activities for children, young adults, and senior citizens of the Franklin area. The athletic section offers sports programs and organized leagues for youth and adults for softball/baseball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball.

Responsible for coordinating and directing a solid waste program, street maintenance and water and sewer services for the town of Vinton.

The day school is designed to meet the developmental, academic and social needs of children and adolescents with learning or behavioral health wellness needs.

Offers temporary payments to needy persons caring for related children under 18 (or if 18, will graduate from high school before age 19) who need support due to death, disability, absence of parent(s), and sometimes employment. Offers limited aid to unrelated children. Provides employment services to recipients, upon approval, through the Virginia Initiative for Employment Not Welfare Program (VIEW Program). Provide support for those patients who have experienced or are currently in treatment for breast cancer.

Mentoring is provided to at-risk youth, 4-21 years of age. Mentors serve as supportive positive role models for youth who may exhibit emotional or social behavioral difficulties which may interfere with their ability to interact appropriately within the community. Services may include: advocacy, role modeling, education/vocational/career planning, conflict resolution, behavior modification, independent living/life skills and social/recreational activities. Mentors create client specific treatment plans based on needs indentified by the client's case manager and treatment team. Mentoring can be done in the home, in the community, or in the office.

Provides counseling, education and food supplementation for pregnant or breast-feeding women, infants and children under five (5) with special nutritional and financial needs. Required childhood immunizations are also offered at no charge.

Services at Culpeper Clinic can provide medication for the treatment of substance abuse. Individuals who are either on SAMAT medications (such as Suboxone or Vivitrol) or those who are candidates for this treatment are evaluated by Encompass Community Supports (ECS) medical staff. In addition to medical services ECS offers clinical services to include individual and/or group therapy.

Provides 24 hour crisis services. This includes 30 day temporary shelter for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and women and children who are homeless.

Provides permanent supportive housing and case manage services for chronically homeless individuals. Participants contribute 30% of their income for rent. Participants pay off debt or save approximately 5% of their income. Bus Line: CUE, Metrobus.

Conducts medicolegal death investigations for deaths falling within their jurisdiction and statutory authority. Does not provide private autopsies.

Provides access to comprehensive oral health care services to low-income and uninsured adults (age 18 and older).
