The Aging and Disability Services Division is the gateway to information for older adults, persons with disabilities, and their caregivers.

MAD4YU provides FREE tutoring, life enhancement, and computer training to under-resourced individuals in Richmond and surrounding counties and families (youth 1st-12th, adults, and active seniors) with collaborations, donations, contributions, and assistance of committed and talented volunteers as agents of change. The name reflects its very purpose: making a difference for you. That is - providing the tools for success - using computer literacy and study skills as the catalyst - to equip those who otherwise might not have access.

This site features educational programs. Teachers and group leaders are welcome to schedule educational trips to the New Kent Forestry Center. Trips can be "on your own" with the teacher conducting his own class using our 850-acre outdoor classroom or, specific, SOL-correlated lessons can be taught by VDOF staff.

A MATTER OF BALANCE is an award-winning program designed to reduce the fear of falling and encourage activity. Classes are held once a week for 8 weeks or twice a week for 4 weeks. Each class is 2 hours. Workshop is FREE. You will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risk at home and exercise to increase strength and balance. Workshops are offer virtually or in-person.

The Cameron K Gallagher Mental Health Resource Center (CMHRC) provides free information and support to families seeking mental health services. It is a program of the Virginia Treatment Center for Children.

Region Ten provides a variety of mental health services to meet the needs of our community. Services are provided for all age groups and are provided on an individual, group, or family basis. Services are also available at numerous locations across our catchment area to those experiencing mental health challenges and who may also have issues with substance use. Mental Health Services are strength-based, recovery-oriented services designed to evaluate and treat the mental health challenges that individuals may experience during their lifetime.

This division is involved in consumer protection through administration of state laws regarding depository and non-depository financial institutions. The Bureau also investigates and responds to consumer complaints. In addition to written complaints, the staff responds to thousands of telephone inquiries. The Bureau also has an outreach program for the purpose of improving the financial literacy of Virginians.

The TANF program provides eligible families with a monthly cash payment to meet their basic needs.

GoodCare is a healthcare training program provided by Goodwill Industries of the Valleys. Through a partnership with Community Colleges and Adult Education or Literacy programs, students will benefit from supportive services, life skills training, education, and assistance to obtain employment in the healthcare industry. Individuals served will enter an in-demand occupation and have the opportunity to grow and advance their career through healthcare pathways. GoodCare will serve individuals who are TANF recipients, as well as other low-income individuals.

WATTS’ Daytime Shelters (Warming Center: Winter | Cooling Center: Summer) offer adults experiencing homelessness a safe, warm/cool refuge to sit for a few minutes or hours to escape the winter chill or summer heat extremes. Offer snacks and drinks daily, restrooms and a shower, and often have lunch offerings when provided by generous volunteers. Guests can charge their phone and access resources. Open seasonally.

To teach adults the basic skills of reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English so they can access employment and educational opportunities and more fully and equitably participate in the community.

Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) is an evidence-based strength, balance and fitness program for adults 65 and older. Performing exercises that improve strength, balance and fitness are the single most important activity that adults can do to stay active and reduce their chances of falling. The entire curriculum of activities in the SAIL Program can help improve strength and balance, if done regularly.

First Home Alliance provide homebuyer education and confidential one-on-one coaching to help people navigate the home-buying process.

TANF provides temporary cash assistance and employment-related services to enable families with children to become self-supporting. The program promotes economic independence through participation in the Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare (VIEW) program, which offers employment-related activities, education, training and needed support services.

Program pays for a variety of medical services, including prescription drugs, doctor visits, nursing facility care and hospital care.

TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families): Direct payment assistance program for families with children in which the child is deprived of maintenance, care, and guidance due to the absence of a parent or parents or the in-home parent's inability to provide maintenance, care, and guidance.

The Clothes Closet is a thrift store that offers clothing and household items. It is also a clothing program for registered GoochlandCares clients, who receive monthly credits.

Provides access to a wide variety of quality literary and informational materials and services which enhance the cultural, intellectual and practical pursuits of the community. Special emphasis is placed on stimulating children's interest in reading and learning.
