The Energy Assistance Program (EAP)consists of two components; Fuel Assistance (FA) and Emergency Crisis Assistance (CAP). The FA component is intended to provide supplemental assistance to offset the rising costs of heating expenses. The CAP component is intended to provide assistance with heating equipment needs and emergency fuel outages. Fuel Assistance opens the second Tuesday in October. The last day for applying is the second Friday in November. Main Qualifications: Have a heating need, meet the income and resource levels, include all persons living in the household, live in an eligible living arrangement and meet the citizenship requirements. Crisis Assistance applicants must meet the following: income level, resource level. Deposits: Opens the first working day in November. May only receive once per lifetime per fuel type. (Natural gas, electric and LP gas) Heating Equipment: Opens November 1st or the first working day in November for Replacement, purchase, or repair of primary heating source. Primary Fuel: Opens the first working day in January. It is for those that did not receive fuel assistance. Requires cut off notice for electric and gas. Almost out of fuel oil, wood, coal or island purchased kerosene. Cooling Assistance: has been offered during the summer. If offered the state sends out the requirements and policy during or close to summer.

Once an eviction notice/utility shut-off notice has been served, we will work directly with the leasing office/utility company to pledge the last $100 after other payments and pledges are made. We will also assist with the last $100 towards security deposits for people moving into our coverage area. Assistance is provided once every 12 months for those who qualify. Funds are on a first come, first serve basis.

Oxford House, Inc. is a network of self-run, self-supported recovery homes for members recovering from alcohol and substance abuse throughout Northern Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia (DC). We provide separate houses for men and women and some houses accept children with parent. When an individual is accepted for membership in an Oxford House, there is no time limit on how long he or she can live there, but the use of alcohol or drugs or non-payment of rent will result in expulsion. There is no clean time required to move into an Oxford House. All houses are near local transportation including buses and subways. Wheelchair accessibility varies by location.

The most common legal problems handled by Blue Ridge Legal Services include: Family disputes (for example, domestic violence, divorce) Problems dealing with debts and bankruptcy Housing and landlord-tenant disputes Eligibility for various government benefits (such as food stamps, TANF, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits) Access to health care (for example, issues involving Medicaid and Medicare) Consumer disputes, and Issues affecting seniors (such as exploitation and problems with nursing homes). Does not handle criminal matters, traffic violations, personal injuries or malpractice cases and other cases outside of our priorities. APPLICATIONS for services must be submitted by phone or online.

This respite program can provide up to 720 hours per year for qualified patients in the Medicaid program. Provides caregivers with relief from care giving duties in an effort to maintain a quality life, independence, and the prevention of premature institutionalization. These duties include meal preparation, shopping assistance, light housekeeping and supervision. There are also Support Group Meetings provided for caregivers. This program helps to maintain the health and well being of the patient and the caregiver.
