The FAMIS Outreach Project is a grant funded initiative of the Virginia Health Care Foundation and the Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield Foundation that helps families apply for government funded health insurance (Medicaid and FAMIS) for their children. We also help pregnant women enroll in Pregnancy Medicaid and FAMIS MOMS which are also state and federally funded health insurance plans for the uninsured. Staff also helps families identify other health care options available and can answer questions related to coverage and options for application submission and processing. Medicaid Expansion Outreach Advocatecan assist with medicaid application year-round.

VPAS' Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program helps Medicare beneficiaries find unbiased answers to questions about Medicare, Medicare supplements and managed care, long-term care insurance, and other health insurance matters. Provides in-person appointments and telephone counseling, information and referral, problem-solving, and follow-up pertaining to Medicare questions, plus impartial consumer counseling about health insurance and LTC insurance. Also serves those under 60 who are Medicare beneficiaries by virtue of disability.

Refer consumers to other programs. Provide information in a manner that is culturally and linguistically appropriate and accessible for people with disabilities.

Part of a national network of programs that offers FREE, unbiased, confidential counseling and assistance for people with Medicare. VICAP counselors can help all Medicare beneficiaries, including those with disabilities and younger than 65, explore options that best meet their needs. They can help you compare the quality of care and services given by health and prescription drug plans available in your area. VICAP counselors are trained and certified to help you understand and compare Medicare benefits. Working collaboratively with the Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP), VICAP counselors can help educate and empower beneficiaries to take an active role in detecting and preventing health care fraud and abuse.

VICAP, the Virginia Insurance and Counseling Assistance Program, helps them to understand Medicare, Medicaid and Long Term Care Insurance. Assistance in choosing a Medicare Supplement Insurance or Medigap policy is also provided. Counseling can be done by telephone or in person. The program can also assist eligible clients sorting through complicated medical bills and patients' rights issues such as grievances and appeals.
