The Virginia Insurance Counseling Assistance Program (VICAP) is part of a national network of programs that offers free, unbiased, confidential counseling and assistance for people who have Medicare or are about to enroll in Medicare. VICAP counselors are certified and trained to assist individuals in understanding all Medicare benefits, including Medicare, Medicare Part D, Medicare Advantage Plans, Medigap, and Long-Term Care Insurance.

Through the Health Insurance Premium Program (HIPP), the American Kidney Fund pays Part B Medicare, Medigap, commercial, and COBRA premiums for dialysis patients who have insufficient income and savings. These premium payments allow patients to continue their health insurance coverage, enabling access to physician care and medical treatment. HIPP is funded 100% by voluntary contributions from dialysis providers. HIPP serves as a "last resort" source of financial assistance.

Provides education, objectively counsels and assists consumers on medical benefit programs and problems with Medicare, Medicaid, medical bill paying and long term care insurance. Counselors receive special training and supervision on health insurance counseling issues. They are not connected with any insurance company nor are they licensed to sell insurance.

VPAS' Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program helps Medicare beneficiaries find unbiased answers to questions about Medicare, Medicare supplements and managed care, long-term care insurance, and other health insurance matters. Provides in-person appointments and telephone counseling, information and referral, problem-solving, and follow-up pertaining to Medicare questions, plus impartial consumer counseling about health insurance and LTC insurance. Also serves those under 60 who are Medicare beneficiaries by virtue of disability.

The Prince William Area Agency on Aging (the Agency) offers health insurance counseling assistance to older adults, their families and caregivers through the Virginia Health Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP). VICAP educates, counsels and assists individuals in understanding Medicare, long term care insurance, and other health benefits plans and programs.

The program can also assist eligible clients sorting through complicated medical bills and patients' rights issues such as grievances and appeals.

VICAP counselors assist seniors with Medicare and help seniors and caregivers understand and compare Medicare and other health insurance benefits. Counseling is non-biased, confidential and free.

Volunteers provide free counseling to Virginia residents regarding health insurance options and assistance with medical insurance forms. The FAMIS Outreach Project is a grant funded initiative of the Virginia Health Care Foundation and the Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield Foundation that helps families apply for government funded health insurance (Medicaid and FAMIS) for their children. We also help pregnant women enroll in Pregnancy Medicaid and FAMIS MOMS which are also state and federally funded health insurance plans for the uninsured. Staff also helps families identify other health care options available and can answer questions related to coverage and options for application submission and processing. Medicaid Expansion Outreach Advocatecan assist with medicaid application year-round.
