Twice weekly tutoring and mentoring services for at-risk middle and high school students.
Provides a state operated program at CHKD which is supervised by the Virginia Department of Education. Hospital Schoool Program offers educational services that cover inpatient status, transition to home or school, and maintenance and follow-up care through outpatient clinics. Our staff consists of administrators, support staff, teachers, educational consultants, an assistive technology specialist, art therapist and a music therapist. All Hospital School Program services are free. Parent permission and medical staff permission must be obtained before any services are initiated.
An out-of-school suspension/prevention program designed to promote positive self-esteem and character traits, promote regular school attendance, and improve proficiency on state academic assessments as established by Virginia State Standards. Services provided to STRIVE participants include: remediation in the core academic subjects of reading, history, science, language arts, and mathematics; individual and group pro-social life skills training; access to technology; opportunities for civic engagement; and field trips and enrichment opportunities.
After School Tutoring is provided every school day for neighborhood children ages 7 thru 14 from 3:00pm until 6:00pm. Program is offered September-June. Summer Lunch Program provides nutritious lunch for children ages 3 thru 18 from 12:30pm until 1:00pm. A recreation time is provided from 11:30am until 2:30pm. Any student ages 7-18 may come for a free lunch as well as being able to participate in the enrichment program. We will feed any child under age 7 but they will have to be accompanied by an adult (parent/guardian) not a sibling or younger family member - NO exceptions.
Provides tutoring for K-4th graders, from 2:15PM-4:15PM, Monday-Thursday. Children have 1:1 tutoring in reading and math, computer lab, and enrichment time. Kids are invited to optional Bible Club on Fridays designed to enrich academically.
Provides academic assistance to eligible high school students who show promise for success in education beyond high school The Program is offered to ninth through twelfth grade students who reside in Norfolk and Portsmouth. Selected students shall show potential for success in a two or four-year college, but because of inadequate educational preparation, admission to such an institute would be difficult without the benefit of Upward Bound.
Literacy Volunteers - Prince William (LVA-PW) provides adult learners in Prince William County dignity, equity, and inspiration through the gift of literacy and health literacy. Mission success is achieved through holistic literacy, an innovative educational approach developed by and unique to LVA-PW. The approach encapsulates a broader understanding of literacy that encompasses both general English-based literacy skills with complex health-related information.

Assistance in improving math, vocabulary, and reading skills. Computer Lab and tutoring for 1st through 5th grade.
Provides a setting where classroom staff provide help youth age 6 to 18 with daily homework assignments. Children and youth are encouraged by rewards and treats to enjoy the process of learning in the classroom setting. Also offers recreational activities.
Provides a school based tutor/mentor program to work with teachers and with students who need help with reading. Volunteers commit to working an hour a week with a student. Also offers the mentoring program, Breakfast Buddies, a school-based mentoring program that provides an adult buddy to a young child who needs an adult friend. It is provided at Orange Elementary and Gordon-Barbour Elementary. Volunteers commit to meet with their buddy 8AM-8:30AM one morning a week.
Provides preparation and tutoring in English, mathematics, science, foreign language, SAT prep, ACT prep, study and test- taking skills, career planning, time management, communication skills, problem solving, and more. Helps students research colleges and universities, and choose the college that is right for them. Help students apply to the college of their choice and apply for financial aid. Trips to colleges and universities for academic and athletic events are scheduled every year. Takes trips to plays and concerts during both the academic year and summer.

A learning lab that provides intensive academic interventions to struggling learners from PK to adults. Uses the learning sciences (Applied Behavior Analysis, Precision Teaching and Direct Instruction) to accelerate the learning of all types of learners. Serve those with and without disabilities. Produce 1-2 years of academic growth in 40 hours of intervention.
Provides supplemental educational services to the children, aged 3-21, of current and former migrant farm workers and highly mobile agricultural laborers. Services offered are assistance enrolling in school, mentoring and tutoring support and arrangements, including transportation and Spanish/English interpretation, for appointments that directly affect a child's education or well-being. The Shenandoah Valley Migrant Education Program (MEP) serves the public school systems in the cities of Harrisonburg and Winchester and the counties of Clarke, Frederick, Fauquier, Loudoun, Page, Prince William, Rappahannock, Rockingham, Shenandoah and Warren. Our team includes 5 year-round, bilingual (Spanish/English) Migrant Student Advocates, several work-study student employees and over 20 trained volunteer tutors.

Homework Help is held at least four days a week at all four community centers. Staff, interns, and volunteers are available to assist students with homework and other academic work. Students have access to school supplies, computers, printers, and supplemental materials along with group and one-on-one assistance.
Provides remedial educational services to students ages 6 through eighteen, who have learning disabilities and/or attention deficits. Offers full day remedial school, summers school program, tutoring, psycho-educational assessment, and parent consultation and education.
