The Powhatan County Public School System has an adult education program that is available to any adult who is 18 and over and who is a resident of Powhatan County. There is also a Senior School designed to meet the needs and interests of the senior adults residing in Powhatan County.

Through a partnership with Virginia Wesleyan University, those living at Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay can take non-credit courses in art, history, political science, psychology, religion, popular culture, and other subjects. Taught by Virginia Wesleyan faculty, the courses are offered at no cost to Westminster-Canterbury members on site, as well as on the Virginia Wesleyan campus. Laurel Ridge Community College is a comprehensive, nonresidential, two-year public institution of higher education. Laurel Ridge offers nearly 75 associate degree and certificate programs in a wide variety of disciplines, as well as workforce training programs for employees and employers. Laurel Ridge offers a variety of day, evening, weekend, and online classes.

The College for Older Adults (COA) is a program for persons 50 and older who share a love of learning. COA offers courses across a wide spectrum of subjects, ranging from historical and cultural topics to the practical and contemporary. Learners are given the opportunity to suggest classes, teach, network with other students, and exchange ideas as well as continue their quest for knowledge and broaden their lives.

The Lifetime Learning Institute of Northern Virginia offers educational and cultural pursuits to adults age 50 and over. Provide members with more than 100 classes (virtual and in-person) year-round, informal special interest groups, monthly speaker forums, social events, and the opportunity for new friendships.

Ten classes are offered each semester (fall and spring), with occasional field trips during the semesters and over the summer.
