This site features educational programs. Teachers and group leaders are welcome to schedule educational trips to the New Kent Forestry Center. Trips can be "on your own" with the teacher conducting his own class using our 850-acre outdoor classroom or, specific, SOL-correlated lessons can be taught by VDOF staff.

Open University is a lifelong learning program of The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond. It features volunteer instructors from Richmond’s university and professional communities. Eight-week sessions are offered during the fall, winter and spring.

Offers a multi-purpose facility providing active adults age 50 and older a variety of programs and services. The Center currently offers 100 programs and special events including fitness, travel, and life-long learning activities, plus socialization and volunteer opportunities. Many free services available to members include financial and personal counseling, tax assistance, and assistance with Medicaid/Medicare. Volunteer Opportunities: Multiple volunteer opportunities within the Center and in the community.

The College for Older Adults (COA) is a program for persons 50 and older who share a love of learning. COA offers courses across a wide spectrum of subjects, ranging from historical and cultural topics to the practical and contemporary. Learners are given the opportunity to suggest classes, teach, network with other students, and exchange ideas as well as continue their quest for knowledge and broaden their lives.

The Lifetime Learning Institute of Northern Virginia offers educational and cultural pursuits to adults age 50 and over. Provide members with more than 100 classes (virtual and in-person) year-round, informal special interest groups, monthly speaker forums, social events, and the opportunity for new friendships.

Assures that all individuals in Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, Warren Counties and the city of Winchester are given a continuing education opportunity for the development and extension of their skills and knowledge through quality programs and services that are financially and geographically accessible. The Powhatan County Public School System has an adult education program that is available to any adult who is 18 and over and who is a resident of Powhatan County. There is also a Senior School designed to meet the needs and interests of the senior adults residing in Powhatan County.

Through a partnership with Virginia Wesleyan University, those living at Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay can take non-credit courses in art, history, political science, psychology, religion, popular culture, and other subjects. Taught by Virginia Wesleyan faculty, the courses are offered at no cost to Westminster-Canterbury members on site, as well as on the Virginia Wesleyan campus. Those living at Westminster-Canterbury also receive free admission to the University's facilities, plays, concerts, lectures, and athletic events (post-season NCAA tournament play requires admission).
