Provides a Federal Agency to protect and manage 190,000 acres of National Forest land and provide recreation opportunities. In the Northwest Region of Virginia the USDA Forest Service also has offices in Harrisonburg, Natural Bridge Station and Warm Springs. Please see the web site for more details. Offers firewood cutting permits for $20 per year. Permits are good in any district of the George Washington or Jefferson National Forest. Individuals are limited to 12 loads per 8 foot bed truck or 18 loads of firewood per 6 foot bed truck per year. Vehicle must be licensed.

Requests for wood can be made weekly as needed, but wood will not be delivered to homes where there is sufficient wood to last for a week or more. All recipients receive one level truckload of stove-ready wood per delivery.
