Responsible for animal control within the town limits of Clifton Forge. Animal control is handled by the Designated Police Officers, who, in addition to the respective patrol activities receive additional training on animal control related topics such as: animal control laws, search and seizure and capture techniques. Ensures people are safe from animals and that animals are safe and properly cared for. In Clifton Forge, there are laws requiring dogs to be vaccinated by the time they are 4 months old and they must be licensed every year. Animals which are captured are taken to the Alleghany Humane Society. Dogs are held at the shelter for 10 days then placed up for adoption to the public. Cats are kept for a maximum of 7 days. The shelter can be reached at 540-862-2436 Monday thru Saturday, 12:00pm until 4:00pm. A leash law within the town of Clifton Forge requires that animals must be restrained from running at large in public areas.

Provides programs and services to curtail juvenile delinquency and to resolve child custody, visitation and support disputes. Acts as a deterrent to help prevent as many problems as possible for juveniles and their families. Referrals are made to appropriate community resource and diversion programs when necessary. Provides probation and parole supervision for those youth who have been placed on probation and parole by the court.

Provides physical examinations, counseling regarding methods of birth control, sexual responsibility, risk reduction and prevention for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and AIDS. Instruction on breast self exams. Birth control method of choice is provided. Persons under 18 may be eligible for free services. A multi-bed residence in Russell County for adult males and females with moderate to mild intellectual disabilities. Staff provide 24 hour supervision. Residents of PleasantView Group Home are generally more independent in their functioning than residents of Intermediate Care Facilities, and require assistance rather than training for all areas of independent living. Emphasis is placed on community integration. Residents and family take part in service planning. Payment for residential services is made by the resident and is usually a percentage of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security benefit.
