Adult Services are provided to impaired persons who are eighteen years of age and older and to persons sixty years or older. Adult services available include the provision of case management, home-based companion services, screening for Medicaid community-based care and nursing home placement, screening for admission to Adult Care Residents (Home for Adults), and other activities to aid the adult and their family.

The goal of Child Protective Services (CPS) is to identify, assess and provide services to children and families in an effort to protect children, preserve families, whenever possible, and prevent further maltreatment. VPAS' Meals on Wheels program provides and delivers a lunch-time meal for persons 60 years and older who are homebound and unable to prepare food for themselves.

Melrose Towers is a 215 unit HUD funded income based independent living facility for people age 62 or older and adults with disabilities. Offers studios, one bedroom units, laundry facilities, and five units that are wheelchair accessible.

New River Health District offers all childhood vaccines (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, HPV, haemophilus influenzae B (HIB), and hepatitis B) and adult vaccines such as tetanus, diphtheria, hepatitis B, influenza, meningococcal, and pneumonia. Travel-specific immunizations are also available. Some school-based clinics are available throughout the district. 

Petersburg Area Transit (PAT) offers para-transit service for Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities (permanent or temporary), service area includes the entire City of Petersburg and City of Hopewell. Paratransit services portions of Colonial Heights, portions of Dinwiddie County and Portions of Prince George County. The para-transit service operates wheelchair equipped vans providing door to door service for qualified senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

The Energy Assistance Program (EAP)consists of three components; Fuel Assistance (FA), Coolng Assistance (CA) and Emergency Crisis Assistance (CAP). The FA component is intended to provide supplemental assistance to offset the rising costs of heating expenses. The CAP component is intended to provide assistance with heating equipment needs and emergency fuel outages. Fuel Assistance opens the second Tuesday in October. The last day for applying is the second Friday in November. Main Qualifications: Have a heating need, meet the income and resource levels, include all persons living in the household, live in an eligible living arrangement and meet the citizenship requirements. Crisis Assistance applicants must meet the following: income level, resource level. Deposits: Opens the first working day in November. May only receive once per lifetime per fuel type. (Natural gas, electric and LP gas) Heating Equipment: Opens November 1st or the first working day in November for Replacement, purchase, or repair of primary heating source. Primary Fuel: Opens the first working day in January. It is for those that did not receive fuel assistance. Requires cut off notice for electric and gas. Almost out of fuel oil, wood, coal or island purchased kerosene. Cooling Assistance: Is offered during the beginning in mid-June. Must meet eligibility requirements

Provides certification through National Interpreter Certification (NIC), training through the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP), and self-regulation using the Ethical Practices System (EPS). Also provides support services for practicing and student sign language interpreters.

New River Community Action's Homeless and Housing Programs offer financial services to those at-risk of becoming homeless (Prevention) and those already homeless (Rapid Rehousing) to help them obtain or maintain permanent housing. Clients must meet strict grant criteria to receive financial services through Homeless and Housing Programs and adhere to program policies and guidelines for continuing services. When available, funding is used for participant financial assistance in the form of rent deposits and last month's rent, rent payments, utility deposits and utility arrears, utility payments, and application fees. Homeless and Housing Programs provides free Renter Education Workshops twice a month. Workshops are for tenants, landlords, and those considering renting. NRCA staff educates participants concerning fair housing, the Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act, energy savings tips, and financial tips. Homeless and Housing Programs offer counseling services. Counseling can be face to face, over the phone, or through the internet. Counseling sessions include completing a written spending plan, determining household goals, making referrals, and follow up on goal progression. am participants. Advocacy for victims of violence in South Hampton Roads courts. Assist in obtaining protective orders and help survivors of violence navigate the court system. A YWCA On-Call Crisis Counselor is available 24/7 to respond to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking, and for a family member(s)/friend(s) to provide support, information, and advocacy. Hospital, law enforcement, and magistrate /courts accompaniment for protective orders are available

The Arc of North Central Virginia is dedicated to building awareness, acceptance, and resources, enabling people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to live connected and meaningful lives in our community.

Investigates animal-to-man bites, domestic animal exposures and quarantines suspected rabid animals. Prepares and delivers samples for rabies examination. Works with other organizations to set-up rabies vaccinations clinics.

Provides an elected, constitutional, law enforcement official, independent in his duties from both City and State. The office is responsible for the prosecution of all felony cases and all misdemeanor cases required by law or court order, and the provision of legal advice to elected officials upon request. The Office provides services which support the victims and witnesses involved in the various cases handled by the Office. In addition, the Office provides consumer protection assistance to residents of the City. The office prosecutes cases in all three courts located in the Joint Judicial Center . These courts are the Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court, General District Court and Circuit Court.
