Emergency Assistance (EA) provides short term, limited financial assistance to families with children when a fire or other natural disaster has destroyed those things necessary for taking care of your family. Emergency Assistance is also available if your family lost all income between December 1 and March 15 and the loss is due to severe weather or energy shortage layoffs. Emergency Assistance payments can be made for food, clothing, shelter, or the repair or replacement of essential household items. The amount of assistance cannot be more than $500 and is limited to 30 consecutive days in any 12 month.

Environmental Health Specialists work to protect drinking water and groundwater resources by ensuring sanitary handling and disposal of sewage and protection of drinking water supplies. Issue sewage disposal system construction permits and inspect finished sewage disposal systems. Issue construction permits for drinking water wells to make sure they are located and constructed properly. Inspect and permit businesses which pump septic tanks and dispose of sewage. Investigate reports of sewage spills or other kinds of groundwater contamination.

The Department's Senior Adult Division is operated from the Douglass Senior Center. The programming for the senior adult is centered around the theme of fun, fitness, and fellowship. Classes are available in arts & crafts, educational areas, wellness, nutrition and other topics of interest to the senior adult. Develops statewide public awareness and education programs and administrates state and federal grants to prevent abuse and neglect.
