Works to end the criminalization of poverty in Virginia by exposing and addressing criminal legal system policies that target people because of poverty and race. Through a mix of community organizing, local and statewide policy advocacy, and litigation, our program intervenes at many points in the criminal legal system. Our campaigns range from initial law enforcement contact in the community, through the courts, to individuals' confinement in Virginia's jails and prisons, and finally to their reentry into the community.

The Facilities & Environmental Services Department (FES) provides the following services. Maintains and improves the physical assets of the county, such as buildings, grounds, and infrastructure Ensures compliance with federal environmental laws, promotes pollution prevention, and minimizes waste Oversees the planning, design, and construction of all major capital improvements projects Coordinates with the Community Development Department to protect the natural resources of Albemarle County. Specializes in serving adults who need mental health care. The hospital offers acute psychiatric care. Both private and semi-private rooms are available. Catawba Hospital is affiliated with the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where staff psychiatrists may have faculty appointments and help train psychiatry residents and medical students. Offers free basic skills instruction to adult students,18 and older, living in the counties of Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell, and Tazewell in Virginia. Programs are designed to meet the needs of adults who have not completed high school. Classes are offered in Adult Basic Education/Pre-GED and GED preparation. All classes are free and are conveniently located throughout the region. Offer several certification classes including CNA, Welding, Paraprofessional and ServSafe. Also offer workforce preparation classes, financial literacy, computer skills and the National Career Readiness Certificate.

Staff and volunteers from the Bridge Ministry will visit the local jails to share information about the Bridge Ministry program and conduct interviews with potential students. Men accepted into The Bridge Ministry program cannot have a record that includes violent or sexually-related crimes. Men who abide by the rules and regulations of The Bridge Ministry program, and, in the judgment of the staff are making suitable progress, can live in the dormitory up to 18 months at the Buckingham Campus. The client may also be offered the opportunity to spend the last 6 months of the program at a Bridge Ministry Intern House in Charlottesville while transitioning back into the community. The program provides an intense schedule of character instruction, work training, drug counseling, financial management skills and educational opportunities.
