Provides programs and services to curtail juvenile delinquency and to resolve child custody, visitation and support disputes. Acts as a deterrent to help prevent as many problems as possible for juveniles and their families. Referrals are made to appropriate community resource and diversion programs when necessary. The services available at the Career Center include internet-ready computers, resume services, cover letters and job searches, interviewing techniques, fax, phone, a copier, resource library, educational videos, newspapers, magazines, computer tutorials, and career counseling. Job seekers can also open e-mail accounts to correspond with potential employers. The Albemarle Career Center is affiliated with the Virginia Workforce System. The Center is open to the public.

Clarke County Department of Social Services (CCDSS) is the locally administered office of the Virginia Department of Social Services. CCDSS administers Child Protective Services, In-Home and Prevention Services, Foster Care, Fostering Futures, and Adoption for families and children. CCDSS also provides Adult Protect Services and Adult Services for the elderly and disabled. In addition to services programs, Clarke County Department of Social Services administers benefit programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps), Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Child Care Subsidy, Employment Assistance, and Energy Assistance programs.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly the Food Stamp Program) provides a basic safety net to millions of people by providing monthly benefits to eligible low-income families which can be used to purchase food. Assistance is in the form of debit cards to help families increase their food purchasing power in order to alleviate hunger and malnutrition.

Resource Mothers is an in-home visiting program. It matches experienced mothers with pregnant teenagers to help provide guidance as they make the adjustment to motherhood.

Provides affordable rental apartments through USDA Rural Development for low-income households meeting eligibility requirements. Financed by USDA, Rural Development (RD), rents are based on income. Accepts HUD Section 8 vouchers.

The Staunton Public Library does not currently take adult volunteers or offer community service opportunities. Interested adults may contact the Friends of the Staunton Library for volunteer opportunities. Teen volunteers may contact the Youth Services Librarian.

Certified copies of birth, marriage and divorce certificates can be obtained from the Mount Rogers Health District health departments for any of these events as long as they occurred in Virginia. The fee for a vital record is $12.00 for each certificate, copy and/or search of a Vital Record.

The St. Teresa Food Pantry clients and their families who find themselves in need of food assistance. The food pantry is offered directly to Ocean View residents living in the 23503, 23505 and 23518 zip codes.

Provide lawn and land maintenance at low to no cost for disabled veterans, seniors and the disabled community. Service area is 20 miles from the Town of Bedford.

The Coast Guard Mutual Assistance provides financial assistance to clients caught in emergency, short-term, financial situations beyond their control that endanger personal well-being. An emergency condition is one that arises suddenly, is unforeseen and urgent, and requires immediate attention. Emergency assistance is generally authorized in circumstances that impose a serious financial or personal hardship on the client requiring urgent help to relieve the situation.

The Pregnancy Support Center provides free pregnancy testing, limited obstetric ultrasounds, options counseling, information, material assistance, telephone referrals, adoption referrals, information on pre-natal development, and post abortive services.

Appalachian Power and Dollar Energy Fund have partnered to offer the Neighbor to Neighbor Program for customers experiencing financial hardship. Eligible Appalachian Power customers with household incomes at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines may receive up to $300 grant per year, applied directly to their bill to help maintain or restore basic electric service. Funds are limited and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Administered by Dollar Energy Fund, the program provides eligible customers with a utility assistance grant applied directly to their bill.

Offers opportunities for volunteers to work with people with Alzheimer's or other memory impairment. Training is provided. Sample volunteer activities include assisting people during an activity, engaging participants one-on-one (playing cards, helping with a puzzle, etc.) helping serve and distribute lunch, bringing in pets for pet therapy sessions, and set-up or assist with parties or celebrations. Provides an advocacy group that meets to determine issues and positive strategies to assist individuals with disabilities. Offers advocacy at local, state and federal level for individuals with disabilities. Also offers forums or one-on-one training for consumers to learn their rights, workshops and forums for businesses and other organizations on government regulation, disability awareness, and other related topics, advocacy for accessible facilities, services, and opportunities and facilitation of group advocacy to improve legislation and disability service systems.

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, 8-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions.
