There are several Medical Assistance Programs offered in Virginia. Each program covers different groups of people and each program has different eligibility requirements. When you apply for Medical Assistance, you are screened for all possible programs based on your age, income, financial resources, and other information. Provides hospice care to patients with a chronic or terminal illness residing at home or in assisted living or nursing facilities. Care is provided by registered nurses, medical social workers, nursing assistants, chaplains, bereavement counselors, dietitian and complementary therapists. Good Sam is participating in NHPCO's "We Honor Veterans" program which is designed to help hospice professionals learn how to better serve veterans through the challenges they may be facing at end-of-life from their unique experiences serving in the military.

Region Ten provides a wide array of substance use treatment that includes a comprehensive continuum of care to meet individual preferences and needs, as well as recommended levels of care. This continuum includes outpatient therapy (group and individual), case management, care coordination, intensive outpatient program, co-occurring treatment, peer support, and residential levels of care. These services are provided throughout Region Ten's sites and locations.

Volunteer opportunities include: *Blood Services: Volunteer to help at blood drives by greeting donors, assisting the donor while donating and observing donors after the donation process. Time: varies, two to six hours per month *Disaster/Emergency Services: Volunteer to assist in times of local disaster. Become trained to assist in damage assessment, mass care, family service, logistics, and disaster health services. Must be 18 years old or older. Time: varies, depending on need. Disaster Action Team: Introduces volunteers to the Red Cross policies and procedures when responding to emergencies in the Roanoke Valley and nationally. Shelter Managers and Staff: Teaches participants how to effectively manage a Red Cross shelter and to meet the needs of people displaced by a disaster. Participants also have an opportunity to practice knowledge and skills needed to run a successful shelter operation. *Administrative Support: These behind the scenes volunteers are vital to the work of the Red Cross. They have duties such as filing, data entry and general office assistance. *Community Disaster Educators

The office of the individual who holds the position of General Registrar and whose staff are responsible for registering voters; and administering, preparing, conducting and tallying, in a uniform and impartial manner, federal, state and county elections in accordance to state statutes. The office may also provide election services and assistance to cities, towns, school districts and special districts of the county; and generally acts as a registry and dissemination center for candidate, campaign, financing, political and voting information.

Each Health Department has Environmental Health professionals to assist the citizens in assuring food safety and clean drinking water. These professionals work to reduce the risk of foodborne illness outbreaks by conducting restaurant inspections, protect ground and surface water through a permitting process, prevent and control rabies in collaboration with local county animal control officers, and refer citizens to informational resources.

DBVI provides services and resources which empower individuals who are blind, vision impaired or deafblind to achieve their desired levels of employment, education, and personal independence. Services are provided through 4 main programs: Vocational Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation Teaching and Independent Living, Low Vision Services and Education Services. Most services are provided in the person's home, school, or workplace. Referrals are accepted from individuals, families, schools, doctors, and other community partners.

The Crater District Area Agency on Aging enhances the lives of older Adults, adults with disabilities and caregivers in the communities.

A civic club which is service oriented with emphasis on sight/hearing conservation, drug awareness and diabetes awareness. Primary purpose is to buy hearing aids and glasses and help residents of Spotsylvania County receive free eye examinations.

The babysitter's training course is taught in a minimum of seven hours. It is designed for adolescents 11 years of age and older. The course is a dynamic, interactive, activity-based program providing the participants with numerous hands-on learning experiences. Each participant receives a Red Cross Babysitters's Guide, checklist, and course completion certificate.
