Supportive Services for Veteran Families - Newport News, SSVF, Hampton Roads Community Action Program

This program provides eligible Veterans with access to Granting Freedom funds, which can be used to improve housing for veterans with a service-related disability, including installing ramps and other housing improvements designed to increase accessibility. Program staff assist veterans with applying for funds and monitor progress as projects are completed. The program also provides limited utility assistance for veterans at risk of utility shutdown/disconnection.

Military Family Support - Hampton, Armed Forces Services, American Red Cross of Coastal Virginia

Provides emergency communications between service members and their families, information and referral when a problem is beyond the scope of the Red Cross, and, in coordination with the military and societies, financial assistance in emergency situations, such as the need for emergency travel or when a pay problem is encountered. In addition to Service to military families, we also provide international tracing and social services. This includes seeking family members separated by war or natural disaster, or families separated during the Holocaust, and the sending of Red Cross letters between family members when normal communications have been disrupted.

Offer personalized, confidential mental health care for post‑9/11 veterans, active‑duty service members, and their families. Sometimes the same day if it’s urgent. Treat issues like depression, anxiety, PTSD, adjustment, grief, anger, and family stress. We use proven therapies like CBT, EMDR, and case management. Confidentiality is always protected.

Provides some relocation information/assistance for transferring military personnel and families, but I & R Specialist may also provide information, referral and resources on both military and civilian needs including adoption, child care, education, EFMP/ special needs, financial assistance, health care, housing, legal services, military benefits, non-support, ombudsmen, parenting programs, recreation, and support groups. For other than Relocation information, ask for the Information & Referral Specialist for the other topics. Relocating personnel and families may visit the website for Military One Source for information on other installations in preparation for making a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move. Military OneSource may also be contacted by phone 24/7 at 1-800-342-9647. All arrangements for actually making the household goods move must be arranged via the www.move.mil website. FFSC offers some Smooth Move and Overseas Transfer workshops as well. FFSC may no longer provide one-on-one assistance in navigating www.move.mil website. Some limited Relocation Assistance may be available at our NAS Oceana Dam Neck Annex office; call 492-6342 to check. FFSC Oceana no longer manages the Lending Locker for relocating personnel/families. It is maintained by the base itself; you may call our front desk at 433-2912 to be referred to the base personnel responsible for the Lending Locker.

Military Family Support - Virginia Beach, FFSC Oceana/Dam Neck Annex, Fleet and Family Support Center

Programs and workshops to assist active-duty Navy/military members, retirees and their families. The Oceana office, provides Family Advocacy case management and general counseling services for adults and children (when available), Sexual Assault Prevention and Response, and Information & Referral services. Some workshops and classes offered by Fleet and Family Support Center Oceana are physically held at the Dam Neck classroom. Not all services provided by FFSC Oceana are available at our Dam Neck office. Please call for clarification. Some of our workshops, such as Command Financial Counselors training, may be held at our Dam Neck site.

Substance Use Counseling - Quantico, Main Side Office, Marine Corps Community Services Quantico

Provides substance abuse assessments and treatment to active duty military, retirees and their family members. Also serves civilians employed at Quantico. Conducts initial screening for services and offers intensive outpatient group and individual alcohol/drug therapy for up to 365 days as well as referrals for inpatient treatment when applicable. Offers post inpatient and outpatient follow-up care.

Military Family Support - Roanoke, Service to the Armed Forces, American Red Cross-The Southwest Virginia Chapter

Assists military connected families and service members to resolve a variety of stress-causing situations. This is accomplished through the use of problem-solving and crisis intervention skills, reporting and communication services and appropriate referral skills. Emergency Communication In the event of an emergency, critical accident, illness, or death in a service member's immediate family, the Red Cross verifies the situation and relays an emergency leave request to proper military authorities. It is then up to the commanding officer to decide whether or not to grant leave. Health and Welfare Inquiries Sometimes, a long time with no word from the service member can become worrisome. The Red Cross, through our worldwide communication network, can communicate with the installation or ship. Also, service members can request the same services related to families back home. The Red Cross chapter may also provide services related to referral, advocacy, humanitarian reassignment, and emergency financial assistance. When calling for assistance, very helpful to have available service member's service number, MILITARY address and birth date and rank and rate.

The ACS EFMP office provides assistance and support to families with medical and/or educational needs to include, advocacy, systems navigation, information and referral, EFMP respite care, enrollment, non-medical case management, support groups, and education.
