Case Management - Henrico, Community Rehabilitation, Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services

The DARS Community Rehabilitation Case Management Services (CRCMS) Program assists people with severe physical and sensory disabilities to build a quality of life of their choosing through self-direction, support, and community resources. CRCMS Rehabilitation Specialists provide individualized long-term case management to people across the Commonwealth, as well as outreach and support services to residents of nursing facilities. CRCMS also provides Support Coordination Services to recipients of Virginia's Development Disabilities Medicaid Waiver. Transition/Education Services - Henrico, Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services

Coordinates transition services between Department of Rehabilitative Services Counselors and local education administration personnel; provides updated information on the newest trends in transition services; provides inter-agency training to Agency staff and school personnel; co-sponsor of Virginia Transition Forum in partnership with the Department of Education; provide technical assistance to Agency Counselors and school personnel as it pertains to providing services to school aged consumers and college students with disabilities who are working with the Department of Rehabilitative Services. Reading Services for People With Disabilities

Disability Resource - Staunton, Talking Book Center

The Talking Book Center is the local library for residents with print disabilities who are unable to utilize print materials found in local public libraries. The TBC provides patrons with audio books and magazines, along with an audio book player on long-term loan. This free service provided through the Library of Congress is supported locally by the localities served, as well as area United Way chapters in Greater Augusta and Rockbridge County. Accessible by the CATS bus.

Vision Impaired - Harrisonburg, James Madison University

Provides current information from newspapers, magazines, and books to those who experience difficulty in or are prevented from reading due to a physical or visual impairment (either temporary or permanent) via a special radio and on numerous cable systems. Area served: The cities of Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Staunton, and Waynesboro, and the counties of Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah. Vision Impaired - Staunton, Talking Book Center, Staunton Public Library

Provides a Talking Book Center - a free library service for individuals who cannot read standard print materials due to a visual or physical handicap or learning disability. By distributing recorded books and magazines and special machines to play them, the TBC serves patrons of Planning District 6. The 'point of access' computer includes scanner, voice synthesizer, large print screen, a CD-ROM reader and a Braille printer.
