Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist can provide training to persons who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing and their families and training to businesses, nonprofits, and professionals that serve persons who have a hearing loss. Responds to request for information and referrals on niche topics related to hearing loss including, but not limited to, where to find sign language classes, support services, assistive technology, and more. Specialist promote public awareness about services via exhibits at local-regional events. Specialist assist clients with their telecommunication needs including applications, assessments, installation, training and troubleshooting specialized telecommunication equipment.

Info Lines/Specialized I&R - Big Stone Gap, Mountain Empire Older Citizens

The first step in MEOC's Care Coordination and Options Counseling services. Handles all referrals for assistance made to MEOC and provides information about and referrals to other service providers. Receives referrals for assistance from many sources including older persons themselves, family members, neighbors, ministers, hospitals, home health agencies and others. Determines the needs of individual older persons and then links the person in need with the appropriate service(s). Visits the person, gathers information and assists in linking the person and the family with the services needed. MEOC staff are familiar with all community services, not just MEOC services, and link individuals to all services needed and available within the community.

Virginia Easy Access - Henrico, Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services

Provides a website for seniors, adults with disabilities, their caregivers and the providers that support them. Offers comprehensive information about local available services and supports. Individuals can ask questions by e-mail and get a response back from the 2-1-1 call center operators. Also makes available an electronic Medicaid Application that can be completed on-line and submitted directly to the appropriate local social services agency for processing.
