The program is set up to provide monthly benefits to workers of any age and their families who face a loss of income due to disability or the death of a family wage earner.

Provide medical care for needy persons who have insufficient income to meet their medical needs.

Administers the social security retirement, disability and survivors benefit programs. We are also responsible for determining entitlement to Medicare and eligibility for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. SSI is a benefit program for the blind, disabled and those ages 65 or older and who have little or no income and resources. Helps families provide health insurance to their children. Health insurance is important to make sure that kids are able to get all the help they need to grow up healthy. FAMIS stands for Family Access to Medical Insurance Security. FAMIS is Virginia's health insurance program for children. It makes health care affordable for children of eligible families. FAMIS covers all the medical care growing children need to avoid getting sick, plus the medical care that will help them if they do get sick or get hurt. The FAMIS MOMS program provides health care coverage for pregnant women. Good health care during pregnancy is important for you and the baby. FAMIS MOMS encourages pregnant women to get early and regular prenatal care to increase the likelihood for a healthy birth outcome. FAMIS Select helps families pay for private or employer- sponsored health insurance. It offers families with children enrolled in FAMIS more health care coverage options. The FAMIS Select program allows families to choose between covering their children through FAMIS or through a private or employer-sponsored health plan. Dental services for children enrolled in FAMIS or FAMIS Plus are provided through the Smiles For Children program. The Smiles For Children program encourages good dental health and recommends regular check-ups with your child's dentist.

Provides Social Security benefits to people who cannot work because they have a medical condition that is expected to last at least one year or result in death. Federal law requires this very strict definition of disability. Certain family members of disabled workers may also be eligible for benefits on a case by case basis.
FAMIS covers uninsured children under age 19 years whose family meets the income guidelines.

Administers and implements public assistance to eligible clients. Benefits: Auxiliary Grant Program, Emergency Assistance (TANF-EA), Energy Assistance, Family Access to Medical Insurance Security (FAMIS), Medicaid, SNAP, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF).
Administers unemployment benefits - Initial benefit claims maybe filed online at www.vec.virginia.gov and select the Unemployment Insurance tab or by calling the Customer Contact Center (866) 832-2363. A claim for benefits must be filed during the week a claimant is unemployed.
Provides medical care and prescription drug assistance to those who are eligible.
Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan. Refer callers to Social Security Administration or the Southern Area Agency on Aging (276-632-6442) for answers to questions and/or assistance in completing the application. Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) connects Fairfax County residents to county- and community-based services and resources that can assist county residents with a variety of needs and provide information and referral. Provides general information on county programs and/or community-based resources to fulfill more pressing needs such as emergency food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, employment or financial assistance and other essential needs.

Medicare is a health insurance program for people age 65 or older. Certain people younger than age 65 can qualify for Medicare, too, including those who have disabilities and those who have permanent kidney failure. The program helps with the cost of health care, but it does not cover all medical expenses or the cost of most long-term care.
Survivor benefits provide monthly payments to eligible family members of people who worked and paid Social Security taxes before they died.
