Provides social security survivor benefits to eligible widow and widowers. Eligible individuals include: full benefits to a widow or widower at full retirement age, a disabled widow or widower 50 or over, a widow or widower at any age if he or she takes care of the deceased's child who is under age 16 or disabled, and receiving Social Security benefits. Benefits also apply to other survivors. Eligible individuals include: benefits to children at any age who were disabled before age 22 and remain disabled, dependent parents age 62 or older, some divorcees, and unmarried children under 18 or up to age 19 if they are attending high school full time. Under certain circumstances, benefits can be paid to stepchildren, grandchildren, or adopted children.

We are also responsible for determining entitlement to Medicare and eligibility for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. SSI is a benefit program for the blind, disabled and those ages 65 or older and who have little or no income and resources.
