Resource Centers are health clinics with a variety of services available in public housing communities. All services are offered to anyone, and cost is based on a financial eligibility sliding sale. The Resource Centers also refer and connect patients to primary care providers and other community services, empowering residents to get connected to the care they need.

Provides the following Environmental Health Services: Complaints Environmental Health documents and investigates residents' complaints about environmental health problems, including reports of food and waterborne disease, mosquito problems, improper sewage disposal, and other public health issues. Food Services Local health department staff inspect and issue required permits to such food service establishments as school cafeterias, restaurants, food stands at community events, camps, day care centers, B&B's, and migrant camps. They work with those who provide prepared food to the public to help assure that food is wholesome and healthy. The local health department is responsible for working with local dairies to assure a healthy product, free of disease. This is done through regular inspections and ongoing input into dairy operations. Drinking Water Environmental health staff provides assistance to property owners who have or desire to have private wells on their property. They assist with required activities and issue, upon proper documentation and payment of fees, permits for private on-site wells. Each county health department maintains records on properties with private on-site wells. Sewage Disposal Environmental health staff provides assistance to residents who desire to or already have on-site sewage disposal systems on their own or their rented property. This assistance includes providing the activities, referral and documentation necessary to obtain required permits for on-site sewage disposal. Responsible for district disease surveillance, investigation and prevention and control of diseases especially those specifically outlined in the Regulations for Disease Reporting and Control. Department receives reports of communicable diseases from local physicians, hospitals, clinics and laboratories. Reports are investigated to prevent and contain the spread of diseases and monitor trends.

Provides a complete range of treatment options on an inpatient or outpatient basis, including radiation therapy and surgery. Other services of the center include patient and family support groups and screenings for the public.

KidMed provides after-hours care for ill and injured children, teens, and young adults, ages newborn to 25, at times when their pediatrician is unavailable. The office is open evenings, weekends and holidays, 365 days a year. No appointment is necessary. ****Do not provide primary care services such as routine well-child checks and routine immunizations.****

A not-for-profit, 129-bed, acute-care facility that has been serving Southwest Virginia and Southeastern Kentucky since 1949. It is the largest healthcare facility in the coalfield region. NCH was the first AOA (American Osteopathic Association) accredited teaching facility in the state of Virginia, and hosts residents in Internal Medicine. The hospital operates several primary care clinics throughout the region.

Serves patients who are fully uninsured, with no Medicare or Medicaid, low-income, below 200 percent of the federal poverty level and reside in Tazewell, Buchanan or Russell counties. Some of our patients are working either full or part time jobs which do not provide health insurance or cannot afford it with the minimum wages being earned.
