Youth Development - Chesapeake, School Aged Youth Counseling-Guidance-STEM Activities, STOP Inc

Project Discovery is a community-based initiative that helps high school students stay in school and become the first in their families to attend college. The success of Project Discovery is the partnership between the community, public schools and colleges. STOP Incorporated implements Project Discovery in high schools in local high schools. Students in the 9th through 12th grades are eligible to participate. The initiative provides field trips to colleges and universities and financial aid application assistance. Funded to Serve the Cities of Chesapeake and Norfolk STOP's Technology Busprovides elementary to high school students with a mobile technology and training system that creates opportunities for inclusion in the computer programming industry. This initiative provides students onboard, at local multi-city stops, with code-building processes, mentorship and engagement to prepare them for future economic advancement. The Technology Bus provides learning opportunities in computer programming, software design, gaming and robotics and computer repair and maintenance. Funded to Serve the Cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and the Counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton Youth Development Initiatives are designed to engage youth in middle and high school. These programs provide opportunities for them to gain knowledge in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Mathematics fields through fun and innovative workshops covering these topics. STOP provides comprehensive summer camp experiences that focus on science and technology as well as tutorial sessions for youth focusing on areas of individual need to ensure that educational fundamentals are obtained. STOP's Youth Development initiatives also encourages students to stay in and graduate high school and provides resources and tools for students to successfully make the transition to post-secondary education. Serves the Cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and the Counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton

MAD4YU assist underachieving students (public, private and home school) 2nd-12th grades in preparation for successful completion of core subjects through one-on-one tutoring and homework assistance sessions. MAD4YU will ONLY offer tutoring and homework help VIRTUALLY this school year for Elementary, Middle, and High School Students.

Youth Development - Roanoke, Project Discovery, Total Action For Progress

Project Discovery is designed to stimulate first-generation college-bound students through information and encouragement. Activities include cultural workshops, guidance in class selection, SOL and SAT preparatory classes, workshops in both financial aid and college life, and college campus tours. Project Discovery s curriculum offers students a place to define and build their character and their self-esteem through relationships established with one another and their Program Specialist.

School health programs in public schools support the physical and emotional well being of students through school nursing services, health education covering a range of developmentally appropriate topics and other services that promote a healthy learning environment. Health Services may include services for students with disabilities and special health care needs and the traditional first aid, medication administration, and screening services.

Youth Development - Harrisonburg, Boys and Girls Club of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County

Provides youth development programs including homework help and tutoring, alcohol and drug abuse prevention, teen pregnancy prevention, conflict resolution, juvenile delinquency prevention, athletics, cultural enrichment, citizenship and leadership development, outdoor and environmental education, and parent training. Boys and Girls Club offers Hispanic programming. Eligible ages are 5 to 18, there are no other restrictions. Immunization records and proof of physical exam required.

College Access - Madison, Project Discovery, Skyline Community Action Partnership

Offers a community based mentoring program that addresses the problems of unequal access to higher education by low income and/or potential first generation college or post secondary students. Skyline CAP offers this program in collaboration with Madison County High School. In the local program, Skyline's Project Discovery students meet for workshops once a week to explore their options for life after high school. Participants are encouraged to take the hardest classes in which they can do well, and be involved in school and community activities. They also have the opportunity to visit at least three colleges or trade schools each year. College bound students are also encouraged to apply for at least twenty scholarships.

Provides services for incarcerated (or formerly incarcerated) parents, their children, and the children's caregivers. Services include both individual and group tutorial sessions.
