Through a school-based coordinator, CIS strategically aligns and delivers needed resources so that students can focus on learning. CIS builds relationships with students, teachers, families, and multiple community resources, with a singular focus, improving academic achievement. CIS partners with local businesses, civic groups, faith communities, public agencies and community volunteers to create resources and deliver quality programming for students and families in-need. We serve students in grades Pre-K through the 12th grade at six (9) Chesterfield County Schools.

Youth Development - Williamsburg, Project Discovery, Williamsburg-James City County Community Action Agency

An educational prevention program serving middle and high school youth who are first generation to attend college, economically disadvantaged and/or need help in improving social skills and grades. Afterschool program consists of motivational life-skill workshops, guest speakers and field trips to colleges, sporting events, businesses, and exposure to culturally enriching activities. Youth perform community service through volunteering and runs the entire year.

Alternative Education - Roanoke, AACCI, Total Action For Progress

African American Culture and Contemporary Issues serves students at risk of dropping out. A specialized curriculum teaches students about their heritage, leadership skills, healthy relationships, financial literacy, and more. Students are also exposed to post-secondary education.

Post Secondary Education and Career Planning - Sandston, Project Discovery, Quin Rivers Inc., dba Thrive Virginia

Project Discovery is a free college and career readiness program being offered to 9-12th grade students who attend Charles City County High School and King & Queen County Central High School. The program helps students achieve post-secondary success by providing a variety of resources tailored to students’ plans. Students attend college campus tours, learn about the different military branches, explore career pathways, and give back through community service. Project Discovery promotes education to end the cycle of poverty for our current students and future generations.

GED Instruction - Christiansburg, Montgomery County Public Schools

Provides free preparatory classes for GED and Pre-GED. Classes are offered in the following subject areas: science, literature, writing skills, mathematics and reading comprehension for social studies.Also assists students in preparing for the GED test. Class locations and schedules are: Montgomery County Government Center 755 Roanoke Street, Christiansburg Building C, Suite B Monday through Thursday, 9:00am to 12:00pm noon. Wilson Avenue House 404 Wilson Avenue, Blacksburg (Beside Harding Avenue Elementary) Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Christiansburg High School 100 Independence Boulevard, Christiansburg Room A-213 Monday and Tuesday, 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Price's Fork Elementary School 4237 Price's fork Road, Blacksburg Media Center Monday and Thursday, 6:00pm to 8:30pm. A second adult education offering is The High School Credit Program which provides an opportunity for adults to complete their high school diploma when they are missing just a few classes. A standard adult high school diploma is awarded upon successful completion of all graduation requirements for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
