Energy Assistance - Culpeper, Culpeper Human Services

The Energy Assistance Program (EAP)consists of three components; Fuel Assistance (FA), Coolng Assistance (CA) and Emergency Crisis Assistance (CAP). The FA component is intended to provide supplemental assistance to offset the rising costs of heating expenses. The CAP component is intended to provide assistance with heating equipment needs and emergency fuel outages. Fuel Assistance opens the second Tuesday in October. The last day for applying is the second Friday in November. Main Qualifications: Have a heating need, meet the income and resource levels, include all persons living in the household, live in an eligible living arrangement and meet the citizenship requirements. Crisis Assistance applicants must meet the following: income level, resource level. Deposits: Opens the first working day in November. May only receive once per lifetime per fuel type. (Natural gas, electric and LP gas) Heating Equipment: Opens November 1st or the first working day in November for Replacement, purchase, or repair of primary heating source. Primary Fuel: Opens the first working day in January. It is for those that did not receive fuel assistance. Requires cut off notice for electric and gas. Almost out of fuel oil, wood, coal or island purchased kerosene. Cooling Assistance: Is offered during the beginning in mid-June. Must meet eligibility requirements.

EnergyShare is Dominion Energy's year-round energy assistance program of last resort. Anyone facing a crisis (Ex. unemployment, family crisis, chronic medical condition) and in danger of losing their primary heating/cooling or needing to restore service may be eligible for assistance. EnergyShare is not income based; however, those under 60 must have a disconnect notice (those age 60 or older do not need a disconnect notice).

Emergency Assistance - Norfolk, Ghent Area Ministry

Offers financial and material assistance for individuals who are homeless or in financial need. Freemason Street Baptist has partnered with other Ghent area churches to provide clothing, limited financial assistance for disconnection for utilities, prescription medication and/or coats to those who need them. In the case of medications, GAM is unable to fill any narcotics or psychotropics. Limited funds available for utility assistance GAM will provide the last $50 of the total bill.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded program that helps low-income households with their home energy needs. LIHEAP provides financial assistance to help eligible families pay for heating and cooling costs, as well as energy-related emergencies such as utility shutoffs or broken furnaces. The program is administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and operated at the state and local levels. Benefits vary by location, household income, size, and energy costs, and may include: • Help with paying heating or cooling bills • Crisis assistance during energy emergencies • Weatherization services to improve energy efficiency LIHEAP helps reduce the risk of health and safety problems such as illness, fire, or eviction that can result from unsafe heating or cooling practices. By easing the burden of energy costs, the program supports household stability and well-being.

GCAP offers emergency assistance to low-income Goochland residents for food, rent/mortgage payments, and utilities. GCAP is also able to support low-income residents with educational expenses for job training, after-school childcare, and summer camp. Goochland Community Action Program (GCAP) is administered through the Goochland Department of Social Services. Applications are accepted via mail, fax, or drop-off in person.

HeatShare - Covington, Dollar Energy Fund, Salvation Army - Covington

Columbia Gas and Dollar Energy Fund have teamed up to offer assistance to our neighbors in need. Assists low-income Columbia Gas customers who have difficulty paying their bill. Eligible customers will receive a utility assistance grant applied directly to their Columbia Gas bill to help maintain or restore basic gas service (up to $300 per calendar year). Eligible customers will have a household income at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. Available to customers who may not be eligible for the Energy Assistance Program. Grants are dispersed on a first-come first-serve basis to eligible applicants and are based on funding availability.
