Virginia Beach Community Living Centers provides supportive services and independent living to adult men and women with intellectual disabilities. In this residential program individuals partner with Volunteers of America Chesapeake staff members to develop person centered plans and participate in life-skills training and human growth and development activities geared towards developing each individual's highest potential. Many of the individuals in our program are employed or participate in programs throughout the community to help strengthen their sense of community involvement and independence. A fifteen bed program in Tazewell County for adult males and females with moderate to mild intellectual disabilities. Staff provide 24 hour supervision. Residents of Cumberland Mountain Home are generally more independent in their functioning than residents of Intermediate Care Facilities, and require assistance rather than training for all areas of independent living. Emphasis is placed on community integration. Residents and family take part in service planning. Payment for residential services is made by the resident and is usually a percentage of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security (SSDI) disability benefits.
