Wise County officials are encouraging all residents to register for the new Wise County Resident Alert System, which is replacing the CodeRED notification system, as a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for this upcoming weekend, January 24 through January 25, 2026. Residents who were previously registered with CodeRED are reminded that they must sign up for the new Wise County Resident Alert System to continue receiving notifications. Participation in the Wise County Resident Alert System is free, and all personal contact information will be used solely for emergency notification purposes. Residents are urged to take a few minutes to register now and stay informed and prepared as winter weather approaches this weekend. The Energy Assistance Program consists of three components: Fuel Assistance assists low-income eligible households by supplementing home energy costs. Applications are accepted the second Tuesday in October through the second Friday in November. Crisis Assistance assists low-income households with energy related emergencies. Applications are accepted November 1st through March 15th. Cooling Assistance assists households in acquiring or repairing cooling equipment and /or payment of electric bills to operate cooling equipment. Vital records are available to immediate family members only: mother, father, husband, wife, adult son or daughter, brother, sister, grandparents and adult grandchildren with valid identification. KidMed provides after-hours care for ill and injured children teens, and young adults, ages newborn to 25, at times when their pediatrician is unavailable. The office open evenings, weekends and holidays, 365 days a year.
