Some of our day trip locations include the library, Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA), A Place to Be for music appreciation, The Air and Space Museum, and several other fun and educational venues.

Provides solid waste disposal services to residents of Bedford County at our Waste Management Facility and at 25 convenience centers. Recycling services are offered at 15 of these convenience centers. Household hazardous waste is also accepted at the Waste Management Facility during regular operating hours.

Investigates reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults 60 years of age or older and incapacitated adults age 18 or older. If protective services are needed and accepted by the individual, local Adult Protective Services social workers may arrange for a wide variety of health, housing, social and legal services to stop the mistreatment or prevent further mistreatment. Services offered may include home-based care, transportation, adult day services, adult foster care, nutrition services and legal intervention in order to protect the adult. Services may also be arranged for individuals in emergency situations who lack the capacity to consent to services.

Virginia's program that helps families provide health insurance to their children. FAMIS stands for Family Access to Medical Insurance Security. Programs include: FAMIS the children's health insurance program for children and adolescents under the age of nineteen * FAMIS MOMS for pregnant women; and * FAMIS Select the insurance premium assistance program. Dental services for children enrolled in FAMIS or FAMIS Plus are provided through the Smiles For Children program. Mountain Empire PACE is a health care plan for frail seniors. PACE stands for Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly. PACE is a nationally recognized model of long term care that allows frail older people to live in their own homes and communities as long as possible. PACE offers a broad range of medical, social, and day health services in home-based and community-based settings and affords hospital or nursing home care when needed.

The goal of Virginia WIC (Wholesome Informed Choices) is to improve the health of pregnant people, primary caregivers, infants, and children (under 5 years) through better nutrition and access to health care.

Connections ABA & Family Support Services Provides home-based and clinic-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services for children and adolescents under the age of 21 who demonstrate significant impairment in adaptive functioning that is related to either developmental delays or other health conditions.

Provides guide dogs and training to the blind who have, in addition to blindness, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, balance problems, and hearing impairments, including individuals who are Deaf-Blind and communicate by American Sign Language. The dogs that are paired with Special Needs students receive a minimum of four months guide dog training plus at least two months of additional training to support the specific needs of the student they will guide. To provide this level of personal and customized training, there are usually not more than 2 Special Needs students in a class. The waiting period to get into the Special Needs program, if an applicant is approved, is two and a half years.
