Provides WIC services for residents who live in the East End of Newport News. Program focuses on the overall good health of women, infants, and children, encourages healthy pregnancy outcomes, and promotes healthy eating habits that follow current USDA recommendations. The program provides breastfeeding and nutrition education along with supplemental foods to eligible persons. It provides nutritious foods such as cheese, eggs, peanut butter, beans, milk, juice, cereal, fruits and vegetables, canned fish, and infant formula. It also provides breastfeeding support and referrals to other health care systems such as immunizations and dental care.

Treatment Foster Care (TFC) is foster care with structured therapeutic support for children and youth who have experienced trauma. Treatment foster parents work as a team to create a home environment that is healthy, supportive, and structured.

The Child & Family Network Centers (CFNC) support all parents in our program by building trusting relationships with them through one-to-one meetings three times per year. Investigates unusual numbers or circumstances of a variety of certain illnesses and conditions, which are reported to the health department. By law, several infectious communicable diseases and certain other conditions must be reported by local physicians, hospitals, and labs. A team of Environmental Health Specialists, Public Health Nurses, Epidemiologists, and the Physician Health Director leads these investigations. When outbreaks are believed to be food or water borne, identification and testing of the potential sources in food and water may be conducted in order to identify the cause of the illness. Education of the public is provided to minimize risk of future outbreaks. Advise potentially rabies exposed persons, in consultation with their physician and the Health Director, regarding post-exposure treatment. Whenever a human being sustains an exposure to a mammal in such a manner as rabies is a concern the health department should be notified as soon as possible after the exposure occurs. May assist in providing pre-exposure treatment for rabies to persons potentially at-risk to occupational exposure to rabies.

To divert from the juvenile justice system those whose needs are more appropriately met elsewhere; to promote rehabilitation of those youth under its care and supervision; and to advocate for the needs of youth and their families to enable them to function successfully in their community.

Woodhaven is a small, 48 bed nursing home providing 24 hour nursing care and supervision for persons with memory impairment, dementia and other age related, mental illness.

Protects elderly (age 60+) and impaired adults from abuse, neglect, and exploitation; enables adults to remain in the least restrictive setting, and, assesses Medicaid eligible adults for nursing home placements.

Offers professional/licensed clinicians provide crisis intervention, short-term, and non-medical counseling to active duty service members. Services available at all five New River Health District locations include education and counseling, physical exams, pap smears, pregnancy tests, testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, PReP, and a wide range of birth control options. Implants and IUDs - are available at each of the locations and can be inserted right on-site by clinicians. Birth control injections, pills, patches, rings, diaphragms, and condoms are also available.
