Bridges the gap between children and older adults in a safe, homelike setting. Provides preschool and before and after school programs, all in an intergenerational atmosphere. Together, children and adults have participated in special activities, including a pen pal program and a celebration of our Appalachian heritage. Integrates the wisdom and insight of the elderly with the energy and enthusiasm of the young. Intergenerational day care offers children the opportunity to take part in carefully selected, supervised activities with senior citizens. It also allows family members to work or take a break from caring for a loved one. Skilled staff create individual care plans for participants. Staff includes a supervisor, activities director, registered nurse, and personal care attendants. Participants receive recreation, socialization, health monitoring and medication management in a home like environment. Each day we serve a USDA-approved breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack. Collaborate with the AllCARE for Seniors PACE program. Through this partnership, participants receive socialization, in conjunction with therapy and medical services while they attend day care. Generations continues to offer training and support sessions to caregivers throughout our service area.

A specialized K-12-day school, John G. Wood (JGW), teaches students with emotional and behavioral challenges that impact their academic success. The goal is to transition students back to their public school as soon as possible. JGW includes a broad range of courses for children in kindergarten through grade 12 and Extended School Year (ESY) services are available during the summer. Some residents of VHBG's Transitional Living programs attend JGW in addition to students who commute from multiple localities in the Richmond region. Students take a full range of academic courses that include CTE classes, online courses and electives with the ability to earn or work toward a Standard, Alternative, or General Education Diploma (GED). Self-contained classrooms are also available for more intensive support. JGW is licensed by the Virginia DOE, accredited by VAISEF, and aligned with Virginia SOLs.
