The Petersburg Bureau of Police protects persons and property by providing law enforcement and public safety services.

The Supported Employment Individual model provides one-on-one services to help individuals with disabilities transition from job preparation to successful employment. Goodwill provides support with job matching and placement, training, and ongoing follow-along services to create mutual confidence between employees and employers. Services include job analysis and task analysis, job placement, public transportation planning and training, hands-on training facilitated by a Vocational Services Employment Specialist in a community business, and monitoring participants' home and work environments to ensure employment retention.

The Haymarket Regional Food Pantry (HRFP) is a community based nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization comprised entirely of volunteers dedicated to eliminating hunger by providing supplemental food to individuals and families in Haymarket, Gainesville and the surrounding areas.

Provides a public library for the residents of Suffolk.

A free, confidential hotline is available 24 hours a day, with trained crisis intervention staff and volunteers answering all calls. Translators are available via language lines for non-English speaking callers. In addition, TTY is available for individuals in crisis who are deaf/hard of hearing.

Bridges the gap between children and older adults in a safe, homelike setting. Provides preschool and before and after school programs, all in an intergenerational atmosphere. Together, children and adults have participated in special activities, including a pen pal program and a celebration of our Appalachian heritage. Integrates the wisdom and insight of the elderly with the energy and enthusiasm of the young. Intergenerational day care offers children the opportunity to take part in carefully selected, supervised activities with senior citizens. It also allows family members to work or take a break from caring for a loved one. Skilled staff create individual care plans for participants. Staff includes a supervisor, activities director, registered nurse, and personal care attendants. Participants receive recreation, socialization, health monitoring and medication management in a home like environment. Each day we serve a USDA-approved breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack. Collaborate with the AllCARE for Seniors PACE program. Through this partnership, participants receive socialization, in conjunction with therapy and medical services while they attend day care. Generations continues to offer training and support sessions to caregivers throughout our service area.

The Watson Reading Room is a non-circulating research repository focusing on issues of African American history and culture. Currently has over 4,000 holdings documenting the history of African Americans. Books, periodicals, dissertations, theses, video and audio tapes are accessible by patrons. This library is a non-circulating facility but offers a 48-hour reserve shelf for patrons.

The Parks and Recreation Department promotes and provides leisure services and recreational programs to the citizens of King George County.

Offers benefit programs for income eligible individuals and families as follows: Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), SNAP (Food Stamps), Medicaid, State and Local hospitalizations; Auxiliary Grant (AG) and General Relief (GR) for burial or cremation. Provides social service programs for families, children, elderly and disabled such as Child Protective Services (CPS), Adult Protective Services (APS), Foster Care to children, Adoption Services, adult services adoptive and foster home studies, custody investigations, adults and nursing home screenings and placement. Provides emergency crisis intervention and psychiatric care services for individuals with substance use disorder. Offers case management, substance abuse counseling and support groups.

Provides an Emergency Medical Services Council whose function is to assess, identify, coordinate, plan and implement an efficient and effective regional EMS delivery system in partnership with the Virginia Office of EMS and the Virginia EMS Advisory Board. Serves the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Nelson, Madison and the city of Charlottesville.

A specialized K-12-day school, John G. Wood (JGW), teaches students with emotional and behavioral challenges that impact their academic success. The goal is to transition students back to their public school as soon as possible. JGW includes a broad range of courses for children in kindergarten through grade 12 and Extended School Year (ESY) services are available during the summer. Some residents of VHBG's Transitional Living programs attend JGW in addition to students who commute from multiple localities in the Richmond region. Students take a full range of academic courses that include CTE classes, online courses and electives with the ability to earn or work toward a Standard, Alternative, or General Education Diploma (GED). Self-contained classrooms are also available for more intensive support. JGW is licensed by the Virginia DOE, accredited by VAISEF, and aligned with Virginia SOLs.

The Police Department in conjunction with the Franklin Co. Sheriff's Department and the local AARP work together for proactive crime prevention. Police department also has two K-9 (narcotics)dogs and one explosive (bomb) dog in their unit.
