For clients who are literally homeless and have nowhere to go that is habitable. STEPS, Inc. will place the client in the shelter or refer them to a shelter until they can find suitable housing and transition them to the next stage of the program. We are on-call for emergency shelter requests after hours, weekends, and holidays. This is not a hotline so leave a message and person will be called back as soon as possible.

Pap Smear Clinics: Available to women of all ages, includes a breast examination, education, physical exam, and appropriate referrals for mammography. A sliding scale fee is applied, based on income. Every Woman's Life: Offers screening services for breast and cervical cancer for eligible women 50 to 64 years of age. This is part of the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program. To be eligible women must: Have incomes at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level, be uninsured, or underinsured, and be a legal resident with Virginia as her primary residence.

Meadowcreek Day Activity provides training and assistance to adults with developmental disabilities to acquire, improve and maintain functional abilities, while also achieving social integration with peers and the community. Meadowcreek Day Support provides opportunities for individuals to pursue personal interests and strengths in the community through art, music, technology, self-advocacy, and wellness. Meadowcreek coordinates with a variety of community-based services, including Charlottesville Parks & Recreation, Access Arts, Madison House, Meals On Wheels, Best Buddies, and Salvation Army.

Provides free federal and state income tax preparation, forms, advice and electronic filing of federal tax returns for: Active duty U.S. military; Retirees from U.S. military; Dependents of active duty or retired military members; Family members of persons who died while on active duty; Family members of deceased retired military members; Department of Defense employees stationed in foreign countries who were U.S. hires, and their dependents (on a case by case basis); Reserve U.S. military on active duty for more than 29 consecutive days. Day Care is purchased for TANF recipients and low income parents to enable them to become employed or to prepare for employment through schooling or training. Day care may also provide substitute care for children needing protection.

The purpose of adoption is to place children who have been permanently and legally separated from their birth parents with a new family. It is a social and legal process which gives new parent(s) the same rights and obligations as biological parents.

The primary purpose of the Virginia Teaching Scholarship Loan Program (VTSLP) is to provide financial support to students who are preparing to teach in one of Virginia's critical shortage teaching areas. Provides an incentive to students interested in pursuing a teaching career in critical shortage teaching areas in Virginia. Students who are currently enrolled on a full- or part-time basis in a Virginia approved teacher preparation program in a critical shortage teaching area are eligible to be nominated for the program by their college or university.

Provides an atmosphere to encourage senior participation in recreation, educational, nutritional, and cultural programs and activities as well as tours and trips. Television, books, games, crafts, and music are available in the senior lounge.

The Lyceum offers exhibitions, public programs, a museum store, and facility rentals.

In partnership with people with disabilities and their families, the Division of Rehabilitative Services collaborates with the public and private sectors to provide and advocate for the highest quality services that empower individuals with disabilities to maximize their employment, independence and full inclusion into society. Each elementary school hosts a kindergarten registration event in the spring to assist parents with registering their kindergarten age child for the following school year.

Child care program provides subsidies for low income families with children in state approved day care centers, family day care homes or religious exempt centers.

The Salvation Army Inclement Weather Shelter will open today beginning at 5pm and will allow individuals to remain until Tuesday. They also have an overflow shelter through Caritas House, and it is located at the same site. The Salvation Army shelter serves individuals ages 18 and older. Families are accommodated in a separate area, though still within the same location. Individuals are encouraged to arrive by 5pm if they do not anticipate having other shelter resources as the shelter does fill quickly, even with the overflow option available. The Salvation Army and Caritas House can provide:

• Heated indoor space for overnight rest and safety
• Hot meals, beverages and snacks
• Restrooms and sleeping areas
• Staff support and cold weather safety information
• Service dogs are welcome

The ombudsman works with patients/residents, families, and institutions to favorably resolve care and residents' rights issues.
