Builds houses to help disadvantaged, low income families from sub-standard housing, who are willing to help build their own home as well as other homes. Homes are built by volunteers and homeowners, known as partner families. Homes are sold to partner families with a no interest mortgage. Habitat families are selected: 1) completion of application and credit report, 2) ability to repay zero-interest mortgage, 3) inability to obtain conventional financing for a home, 4) living in substandard housing or homeless, 5) meet income requirements and 6) agree to partner with affiliate. Volunteers welcomed from all walks of life.

Services include placement, teaching independent living skills, physical or mental health treatment, mentoring, and opportunities for permanent living situations.

The Burn Trauma Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is a nine-bed intensive care unit serving patients who have suffered trauma and/or burns. Most patients come as a result of motor vehicle accidents, blunt force trauma, penetrating wounds such as stabbing or gunshot wounds, and falls. This unit also serves as an overflow unit for the sister unit with neurosurgical patients, as well as overflow from the medicine unit.
