The Center for Alexandria's Children is a local nonprofit organization working to END child abuse in the City of Alexandria. As Alexandria's Nationally Accredited Child Advocacy Center, we deliver evidence-based prevention, intervention, and education programs to respond to abuse, prevent future harm, and equip adults to be protectors of children.
✅ Prevention
We facilitate specialized Learn&PlayGroups™ for parents and children ages 0–5 that build strong families and safe childhoods. Using a play-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum, our experienced facilitators strengthen the parent-child bond, promote protective factors that prevent abuse, and connect families to vital community resources and supports. Priority registration is offered to families facing the greatest need.

We deliver evidence-based prevention education programs throughout the City of Alexandria to build a community of informed, empowered adults. Through Darkness to Light trainings, we teach parents, caregivers, educators, and community members how to prevent, recognize, and respond to child sexual abuse—creating safer environments where children can thrive.

The Energy Assistance Program consists of three components:
Fuel Assistance assists low-income eligible households by supplementing home energy costs. Applications are accepted the second Tuesday in October through the second Friday in November.
Crisis Assistance assists low-income households with energy related emergencies. Applications are accepted November 1st through March 15th.
Cooling Assistance assists households in acquiring or repairing cooling equipment and /or payment of electric bills to operate cooling equipment. Applications are accepted June 15th through August 15th. Additional information about EAP is available at www.dss.virginia.gov. Apply online anytime at www.commonhelp.virginia.gov.

Appalachian Power and Dollar Energy Fund have teamed up to offer assistance to neighbors in need. Assists low-income Appalachian Power customers who have difficulty paying their utility bill. Eligible customers will receive a utility assistance grant applied directly to their utility bill to help maintain or restore basic utility service (up to $300 per calendar year). Eligible customers will have a household income at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. Available to customers who may not be eligible for the Energy Assistance Program. Grants are dispersed on a first-come first-serve basis to eligible applicants and are based on funding availability.
