Serves as the legislative branch for the City of Franklin.Divided into six council wards, Franklin's city council ensures the voice of citizens is heard. Led by an elected mayor and appointed City Manager, citizens in each of the six wards elect a council representative to serve a four-year term. Regular sessions are semi-monthly on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

Falls Prevention includes two programs: Falls Talk and A Matter of Balance. Falls Talk offers one-on-one interaction with a trained facilitator to help increase an individual's ability to prevent falls, to manage falls if they occur, and to become aware of fall threats (such as personal traits or circumstances that could cause a fall). It is open to individuals 50 years and older and is provided at the consumer's home or via telephone. A Matter of Balance classes help participants view falls and the fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals for increasing activity, and change their environments to reduce fall risk factors. Prince Edward Social Services provides a broad array of human service programs for county residents who have financial, social, educational, health, and emotional needs. The department serves on the front line of intervention, assessment, service provision, and/or referral to appropriate agencies and organizations in the area.

Emphasis is also placed on providing informational materials and services to support personal interests, community interests and formal educational needs.

The Virginia Career Works - South Boston Center advances economic growth by preparing and connecting individuals with Virginia businesses looking to hire and build a stronger workforce.

Series of classes to assist parents in how to help their children develop responsibility, cooperation, courage and self-esteem. Classes for parents of teenagers include sessions on sexuality and substance abuse. Interested participants should call the Prevention Division to determine when and where classes are being offered.

The nutrition program provides nutritious meals that meet 1/3 of the daily recommended dietary allowances as required by Federal regulation. Meals are provided to those individuals 60+ years of age who are in greatest economic, social and physical need.
