The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers free tax help to people who generally make $60,000 or less*, persons with disabilities, and limited-English speaking taxpayers, who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

For those facing financial hardship from unemployment, a family crisis, or a chronic medical condition, EnergyShare is Dominion's energy assistance program of last resort. There is no income guideline requirement, however, clients must have a disconnect notice. EnergyShare intake agencies determine eligibility for EnergyShare and may have additional requirements when qualifying customers for this program.

A One-Stop Career Center, or One-Stop Workforce Center, is a location where a wide range of employment, training, and career education program services are available to employers, workers, job seekers and youth. The OppInc One-Stop Workforce Center is part of the nationwide system of American Job Centers, which leverage public workforce dollars with other state and local funding; business resources; and foundation support to provide career development services for local workers and deliver workforce solutions to local employers. OppInc. One-Stop Workforce Centers offer a comprehensive range of services to help you find a job. Services provided through the Workforce Centers are funded through the U.S. Department of Labor so there's never a charge, although eligibility may apply for certain services. OppInc. One-Stop Workforce Centers are also members of the EleVAte Virginia.

Elmtree is a group home for individuals 18+ who have an intellectual disability and other secondary disabilities, such as emotional/behavioral problems or physical disabilities. Elmtree provides access to social and recreational activities and makes available religious and employment opportunities in the community or at home. The application process includes providing credit references, housing references, verification of income and disability. Renters must meet all VHDA requirements and sign a one-year lease. Elmtree has available staff on-site 24 hours a day.

Offers assistance and refers customers who have been exposed to tuberculosis for chest x-rays, follow-up and medicines as needed. Sexually transmitted diseases treated at the clinic, free of charge. Free, confidential HIV testing and counseling. Communicable disease investigations, surveillance and control is a district service.

The Energy Assistance Program consists of three components: Fuel Assistance assists low-income eligible households by supplementing home energy costs. Applications are accepted the second Tuesday in October through the second Friday in November. Crisis Assistance assists low-income households with energy related emergencies. Applications are accepted November 1st through March 15th. All crisis assistance is based on availability of funds. Cooling Assistance assists households in acquiring or repairing cooling equipment and /or payment of electric bills to operate cooling equipment.
