Veteran Direct Care is a service program for veterans of any age, who are determined and referred by the Veterans Health Administration, to be at-risk of institutional placement and desire self-directed care. In other words, the program is designed to allow veterans who are potential candidates for nursing home placement to receive that level of care in their homes.

Veterans Nursing Facility - Roanoke, Davis and McDaniel Veterans Care Center, Virginia Department of Veteran Services
Provides comprehensive nursing and domiciliary care to Commonwealth of Virginia residents who are admitted to the DMVCC. Has 240 beds in the facility, on-site laboratory work, x-rays, physical therapy, podiatry care, and many other ancillary health care services. The Salem VA Medical Center is also located next door for additional services for those qualified.

Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity is offering older adults (60+) and Veterans the opportunity to apply for critical home repairs or accessibility modifications. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to age with dignity in their own home and community.
The Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity Aging in Place (AIP) program makes accessibility, safety, energy efficiency and home improvements for seniors living in the City of Winchester and the counties of Frederick, Clarke and Shenandoah.
Examples of repairs for Aging in Place include:
Installation of handrails and portable aluminum ramps
Fitting bathrooms with accessible fixtures
Minor electrical, heating, plumbing and roof repairs
Porch repairs
Weatherization

The 128-bed facility is organized into communities (64 beds), with two neighborhoods (32 beds). Each neighborhood includes two households (16 beds) with adjoined access to a courtyard. The households feature all private rooms each with its own bathroom and walk in shower as well as a spacious dining room, kitchenette, and dayroom. This person-centered approach creates a true sense of community and home, which supports providing our Veteran residents the opportunity to have as good or better quality of life than before they came to us.

Veterans experiencing homelessness may call the screening line at 202-658-9599 to be assessed for services. Veterans should leave a message and it will be returned promptly. For Veterans who are not eligible for services through the Veterans First program, will be provided with referrals to appropriate community resources that may be able to provide further assistance. Provides energy assistance through EnergyShare program.
