Honorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces Minimum of 6 months of active-duty service (not to include training) Virginia residency at the time of admission or entry into active duty from Virginia Meets medical requirements for nursing home care

Service area

Provides comprehensive nursing and domiciliary care to Commonwealth of Virginia residents who are admitted to the DMVCC. Has 240 beds in the facility, on-site laboratory work, x-rays, physical therapy, podiatry care, and many other ancillary health care services. The Salem VA Medical Center is also located next door for additional services for those qualified.

The Department of Veterans Services (DVS) is organized into six service delivery sections to include benefits, veterans education, care centers, veterans cemeteries, the Virginia Veteran & Family Support Program and the Virginia War Memorial. Four citizen boards work closely with the agency to support the effective delivery of services to Virginia's veterans, the Board of Veterans Services, the Joint Leadership Council of Veterans Service Organizations, the Veterans Services Foundation, and the Veterans Care Center Advisory Committee.
