Senior Citizens Volunteer Program - Fairfax, RSVP of Northern Virginia, Volunteer Fairfax

RSVP connect volunteers age 55 and over to non-profits across the community. RSVP serves as a gathering place for older adults to socialize, participate in group service projects, and work toward the common goal of making Northern Virginia stronger, more resilient, and empowered. RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) is part of AmeriCorps Seniors, which focuses on making public service a central part of the American experience.

Provides HUD subsidized apartments for the elderly (age 62+ or disabled) including community room with fireplace, barber/beauty shop, laundry facilities, doctor's office, (standard and barrier free doors) and many activities. Consists of 114 units: 99 one bedroom units and 15 two bedroom units.

The Department's Senior Adult Division is operated from the Douglass Senior Center. The programming for the senior adult is centered around the theme of fun, fitness, and fellowship. Classes are available in arts & crafts, educational areas, wellness, nutrition and other topics of interest to the senior adult. The center offers a well-equipped wellness room with professional exercise equipment, two lounges, kitchen, ceramic studio and billiards room.

Continuing Education - Virginia Beach, Westminster/Wesleyan Lifelong Learning Institute, Virginia Wesleyan University

Through a partnership with Virginia Wesleyan University, those living at Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay can take non-credit courses in art, history, political science, psychology, religion, popular culture, and other subjects. Taught by Virginia Wesleyan faculty, the courses are offered at no cost to Westminster-Canterbury members on site, as well as on the Virginia Wesleyan campus. Those living at Westminster-Canterbury also receive free admission to the University's facilities, plays, concerts, lectures, and athletic events (post-season NCAA tournament play requires admission).

Continuing Education - Lynchburg, LIFE@Lynchburg, University of Lynchburg

Offers not-for-credit learning opportunities for community members age 50 and older. Ultimately, the program is a community of lifelong learners who explore topics together and do what the University of Lynchburg is known for — building friendships and connections that last a lifetime. Program features weekly presentations on a variety of engaging topics, taught by current and retired faculty and staff members or area educators and presenters. Ten classes are offered each semester (fall and spring), with occasional field trips during the semesters and over the summer. LIFE@Lynchburg is for people who love learning, want to dig deeper in their areas of interest, or discover something new.

Offers a multi-purpose facility providing active adults age 50 and older a variety of programs and services. The Center currently offers 100 programs and special events including fitness, travel, and life-long learning activities, plus socialization and volunteer opportunities. Many free services available to members include financial and personal counseling, tax assistance, and assistance with Medicaid/Medicare. Volunteer Opportunities: Multiple volunteer opportunities within the Center and in the community.
