The Administrator directs and supervises the day-to-day operations of all county departments and offices, which are under the direct control of the Board of Supervisors, pursuant to county ordinances and regulations. The County Administrator provides administrative support to the Board of Supervisors and is responsible for implementing their directives as they pertain to board agendas, meetings, resolutions, and constituent services.

The County Administrator executes policies established by the Board of Supervisors or mandated by the Commonwealth of Virginia, represents the Board in County matters, and reports directly to the Board of Supervisors. Instrumental in implementing the establishment of neighborhoods, senior service and community service centers. Other services include community planning and development in coordination with city agencies. Administrative services include budgeting. Council votes on budgets submitted by city agencies.

County Administration is responsible for administering and coordinating the daily operations of all departments of the County, under the guidance and supervision of the Board of Supervisors. The County Administrator serves as the chief administrative and operating officer, including management and personnel administration, financial management & budget preparation and organizational management. The County Administrator advises and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors, as well as implementing goals and policies established by the Board.

The Board determines all policies and ordinances that govern the County and appropriates funds for County programs through an annual budget.

Services provided are adoption of the City budget, approval of all tax levies, adoption of ordinances, approval of amendments, supplements or repeals to ordinances and the City codes, and appoints the City Manager, City Clerk, City Attorney and various local boards, commissions and committees.

The Mayor presides over Council meetings and is recognized head of the City government for all ceremonial purposes.

The County Administrator is appointed by the Board of Supervisors to manage and coordinate the overall day-to-day operations and activities of the County government.

Duties shall include collection of funds due the city, use of designated depositories, accounting of funds and appropriations to which warrants are chargeable, register of warrants, receipt of tax payments, custodian of Cedar Hill Cemetery fund, and report monthly to city council the receipts and expenditures.

The City Mayor keeps the city financially secure, makes sure essential city services are maintained, and is always working to provide for the future.

The City Manager directs the general operation of the City government, including budget preparation and service prioritization. The City Manager also interacts with various elements of the community, including members of the legislative delegation, the business community, civic organizations and other government bodies.

Appomattox County utilizes a traditional County Board form of government under the authority of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended. The county is governed by a five member Board of Supervisors, each elected from one of the County's five election districts.

Provides Voter Registration, Absentee Voting, and Election Administration for Shenandoah County.

Pittsylvania County is governed by a seven-member Board of Supervisors, who are elected by district to four-year terms. The Board of Supervisors is responsible for appointing the County Administrator and making policy decisions for Pittsylvania County. Among other things, the Board has power to pass and repeal ordinances and has final approval power on the annual budget.
