Services include free counseling and technical assistance, pre-business and business planning workshops, and information on starting and managing a small business offered through Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE); free counseling services available through a network of Small Business Development Centers; assistance for women business owners from a women's business ownership representative; assistance for veteran's business owners from a veterans business ownership representative; and assistance for businesses involved or interested in becoming involved in exporting from an International Trades Officer. SBA also provides loans for small businesses and post disaster assistance.

Loans at zero-interest are made primarily to finance business start-up ventures and business expansion projects.

Strengthens the economic base by providing a professional focus on the business needs of Bristol by facilitating a globally competitive business environment (including partnerships) that leverage economic diversity, build consensus and express the voice of business. Offers business statistics and provides newcomers with maps and other assistance.
Administers the Federal Farm Programs and the USDA Farm Loan Programs for City of Lexington, Rockbridge,Alleghany and Bath Counties. Provides government price support and conservation programs related to agriculture at the local level. Price support includes both deficiency payments and low interest price support loans. Provides cash payments to individuals, disaster preparedness/relief and emergency funds.

Serves as an advocate for Virginia's entire business community. They advocate for those public policies that ensure a vibrant economy and positive business climate. They protect their members' interest on issues such as taxation, business and environmental regulation, transportation, workplace and labor relations, health care, education and workforce training, workers' compensation, tort liability, technology, economic development, and government operations
The SBA works with lenders to provide loans to small businesses. The agency doesn't lend money directly to small business owners. Instead, it sets guidelines for loans made by its partnering lenders, community development organizations, and micro-lending institutions. The SBA guarantees these loans will be repaid, which eliminates some risk for the lending partners.
Provides financial assistance to farmers and landowners in Albemarle, Fluvanna, Louisa and Nelson counties who install agricultural conservation practices. Reimburses landowners for portion of installation costs for approved practices. Must provide a written conservation plan for approval of SWCD Board beforehand. Agricultural BMP (Best Management Practices) Tax Credit may be available. Practices must first be approved by the SWCD Board prior to installation in order to qualify later for the tax credit. Through the onsite New River Valley Business Center: *Specializes in the areas of small business services, entrepreneurship, manufacturing, and international business, providing a distinct blend of programs, services, and resources; *Offers services that include connections to business counseling, sponsored programs, seminars, publications, and information services; *Supports the operations of businesses, entrepreneurs, and local governments throughout the New River Valley; *Provides entrepreneurs in the region with access to staff, students, information sources, and other resources required to help them start up and grow their businesses, improve their organizations, and strengthen the regional economy. Financial Assistance: The point of access for loan funds serving the region. Manages the New River Valley Revolving Loan Fund. These funds are directed toward businesses which are developing an association with one of the incubator facilities, the multi-tenant facility, or are eligible for location in one of the facilities. Information and Referral: Maintains relationships with numerous organizations in the region and beyond to provide those seeking business assistance with contacts which can best address their questions and meet their business development needs.
