Substance Use Services offers support to individuals and families experiencing alcohol and other drug-related problems. Gender specific treatment is offered - men's and women's teams. Priority populations include: * Pregnant women are offered an appointment within 48 hours of request for service. * Intravenous (IV) drug users are offered an appointment within 5 to 10 days. * People with HIV+/AIDS are offered an appointment within 5 to 10 days.

Special programs for adults, adolescents, and children, and treatment is always provided in a confidential and comforting environment. RESPOND assessments are also available through Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg and Pulaski Community Hospital.

Crisis services are designed to meet a person's immediate needs, assure their safety and connect them to appropriate and timely interventions, in the least restrictive environments. This includes rapid telephone consultation and in-person crisis assessments if necessary. Crisis counseling is also available at scheduled times in a variety of Region Ten sites. The acute teams and programs provide supportive counseling, assessment, stabilization services, as well as acute intervention and safety planning.

Whole Village Counseling offers an array of services to meet individual needs. Offers an outpatient therapist, a substance use assessment, or an intensive outpatient / partial hospitalization program.

The Substance Abuse Screening & Subtle Inventory Assessment (SASSI-4) identifies high or low probability of substance use disorders and includes a prescription drug scale that identifies individuals likely to be abusing prescription medications. Objective decesions rules classify individuals as chemically dependent or as not chemically dependent. Identify early-stage chemically dependent individuals who are either in denial or who are trying to conceal their chemical dependency. In addition to being used as a screening instrument, the SASSI-4 also provides clinical insights into a respondent's defensiveness and willingness to acknowledge experienced consequences of substance use disorder.
