Provides mental health services through Valley Behavioral Health Associates located at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. Offers individual, couples, and family therapy and medication management to residents of Shenandoah County. In addition, Valley Behavioral Health Associates offers services to outpatient adolescents and hospitalized patients at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. Valley Behavioral Health offers "Connections" for seniors age 65 and older who are struggling to adjust to changes in their lives. Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute (SWVMHI) is a 179-bed state psychiatric institute operated by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). The Institute serves adult and geriatric individuals. SWVMHI is the primary state psychiatric hospital for individuals located in Health Planning District III, far southwestern Virginia. Mental Health Intake & Resource Center handles direct admissions to the adult (Mundy 3) and child/adolescent (Krise 6) psychiatric acute programs at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Mental health professionals from across Virginia may call for a direct admission if they have assessed the patient and believe she/he meets criteria (danger to self or others).
