New River Community Action works with numerous citizen groups to develop and implement agency programs. Volunteers who serve on the agency Board of Directors as well as various program Advisory Councils work in partnership with the staff. Volunteers conduct independent investigations, submit reports and recommendations to the court and monitor the child's case to assure services are provided and court orders are being followed. Volunteer workers enhance the service delivery capabilities of the Social Services Department by offering direct, indirect, and advisory services to staff and clients. Matches adults age 20 and older with at-risk youth ages 6 to 17 for professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships. The mentors help youth to overcome challenges and to achieve their highest potential.

Provides trained and screened volunteers matched to persons with visual impairments requesting assistance with reading, shopping, recording material onto tape at mutually agreeable hours. Adult volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application with reference checks and participate in an orientation session.
