The YMCA of Greater Richmond provides teens with programming the focuses on community service, social development, leadership training, and physical development. Some of our programs include Teen Leaders Club, Youth Enrichment Program (YEP), along with a variety of other programs.

Project Discovery is designed to stimulate first-generation college-bound students through information and encouragement. Activities include cultural workshops, guidance in class selection, SOL and SAT preparatory classes, workshops in both financial aid and college life, and college campus tours. Project Discovery s curriculum offers students a place to define and build their character and their self-esteem through relationships established with one another and their Program Specialist.

To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy body, mind and spirit for all. The YMCA offers activities and programs for people of all ages. No one is turned away because they cannot pay. Programs provided are wellness programs include cardiovascular conditioning and strength training, aerobic and yoga classes, water fitness, swim lessons and programs for active older adults.

The program pairs young professionals and college students with experienced mentors and provides the foundation for an effective and valuable mentoring relationship, as well as guided group mentoring sessions designed to help participants achieve their highest professional and personal goals.

A post-secondary access program currently offered through 24 Partner Agencies throughout Virginia in grades four to twelve. Project Discovery encourages students to stay in and graduate high school and provides resources and tools for students to successfully make the transition to post-secondary education. This is the central administrative office for this program. Project Discovery is a proven and replicable program that will help any student succeed in high school and get into college. Over the last 11 years over 84% of our graduates have gone on to post secondary education. Our program is a proven mix to: *Mentoring; *Time Management Skills; *Study Skills; *Help with Remedial Classes; *Help with Advanced Classes; *Visioning and Planning for the Future; *College Admissions Help; *Financial Aid Assistance; *Financial Literacy; College Campus Visits.

Provides programs to prevent juvenile delinquency and promote positive youth development, and administer the Comprehensive Services Act, Crime Control Act programs and a Partners in Prevention grant.

School based service clubs, known as Hi-Y and youth and government. Model general assembly 3 - 4 day event at State Capitol, students debate legislation and simulate proceedings of general assembly. Model judiciary program - mock trials held in circuit courts across the state. Includes appeals process. Other leadership development activities and training.

Provides a service learning program for teens in relationship-based community agencies and volunteer projects. Supervised volunteer activities are supplemented with services that include mentoring, tutoring, character education, case management, counseling, reflection, and recreation activities. The Sacred Heart Center has educational, arts and mentoring programs to meet children's educational needs and engage their interests.

Provide year-round academic support to children in grades 1 - 12 living in the Arlandria-Chirilagua community. Daily, nutritious meals are part of the program. Students receive an average of 350 hours of academic and general support annually. Services included are an afterschool program, mentoring, and summer program.

An out-of-school suspension/prevention program designed to promote positive self-esteem and character traits, promote regular school attendance, and improve proficiency on state academic assessments as established by Virginia State Standards. Services provided to STRIVE participants include: remediation in the core academic subjects of reading, history, science, language arts, and mathematics; individual and group pro-social life skills training; access to technology; opportunities for civic engagement; and field trips and enrichment opportunities.

Youth Development promotes the healthy social emotional development of children and youth through evidence- based prevention services and initiatives, subsequently preventing costly risk outcomes such as alcohol and other substance use, pregnancy, school drop-out, and violence.

The National Urban League Incentives to Excel & Succeed (NULITES) is a nationwide youth initiative, designed to reflect the positive aspects of youth in today's society while providing opportunities for personal and leadership development. NULITES has its own youth officers who develop, implement and execute activities with guidance from adult advisors.

Project Discovery is a community-based initiative that helps high school students stay in school and become the first in their families to attend college. The success of Project Discovery is the partnership between the community, public schools and colleges. STOP Incorporated implements Project Discovery in high schools in local high schools. Students in the 9th through 12th grades are eligible to participate. The initiative provides field trips to colleges and universities and financial aid application assistance. Funded to Serve the Cities of Chesapeake and Norfolk STOP's Technology Busprovides elementary to high school students with a mobile technology and training system that creates opportunities for inclusion in the computer programming industry. This initiative provides students onboard, at local multi-city stops, with code-building processes, mentorship and engagement to prepare them for future economic advancement. The Technology Bus provides learning opportunities in computer programming, software design, gaming and robotics and computer repair and maintenance. Funded to Serve the Cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and the Counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton Youth Development Initiatives are designed to engage youth in middle and high school. These programs provide opportunities for them to gain knowledge in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Mathematics fields through fun and innovative workshops covering these topics. STOP provides comprehensive summer camp experiences that focus on science and technology as well as tutorial sessions for youth focusing on areas of individual need to ensure that educational fundamentals are obtained. STOP's Youth Development initiatives also encourages students to stay in and graduate high school and provides resources and tools for students to successfully make the transition to post-secondary education. The Youth Services Specialist works with schools and other youth serving programs to provide youth leadership and community engagement opportunities across the county. The Hanover Youth Service Council is a group of middle and high school students selected from across the county whose purpose is to promote community involvement and volunteerism among the youth of Hanover County. The Council meets regularly to plan and conduct service projects.

A comprehensive, full-time, non-residential, community-based program that offers youth an immediately productive role rebuilding their communities. Students spend half their time attending basic education classes and half their time receiving job and life skills training in high-demand fields while building career and leadership skills.

Offers strength-building programs using the creative arts as the foundation, and tracks in four areas of focus: entrepreneurship, cultural exploration, financial literacy and community/leadership development.

A variety of programs offered to inner-city youth and families at no cost. The Y On Wheels is a mobile YMCA. The program provides fitness and nutrition based programs designed to teach principles and methods of healthy physical fitness to children. The project brings the YMCA programming, mission, and values to communities and neighborhoods that do not have access to a YMCA facility or programming. In collaboration with the Live Healthy Lynchburg Initiative the project reaches out to inner city communities by offering free outreach programs that are designed to provide the Y experience for children and families who cannot afford them. Other programs include: Bright Beginnings, Angel Tree, and Healthy Kids Day. Outreach Swim lessons offered to children from inner city neighborhoods. The program works with elementary schools to identify children who need swim lessons. We provide group lessons to 2nd grade students. We collaborate with Jubilee, The High Apartments and Boy's and Girl's Club.

NVFS' Youth Initiatives programs provide teenagers and young adults with the skills and resources needed to build healthier well-being - at school, at home and within their communities. This includes connections to healthy activities as well as the skills to build and maintain healthy relationships with friends and family. Providing youth with these tools helps them build brighter futures not only for themselves, but for their community as well.
