Sadler House offers programs and services to empower women: counseling and court advocacy services; counseling for children; support services and referrals. Males are served also.

The Learn to Swim program offered at both the Downtown and Jamerson YMCA prepares children for swimming and learning basic safety and swimming techniques. The program also builds self confidence. There are also components designed to develop the whole person through five specific components of personal safety, stroke development, water sports, and games, personal growth, and rescue. YMCA Before- and After-School Child Care is designed for children in kindergarten through middle school. Programs complement and enhance formal education, and provide learning opportunities that build relationships, develop character and inspire discovery to help foster your child's academic success.

The Silver Sneakers program entitles people with supplemental health insurance to receive a free YMCA membership. Included in the membership is access to special Silver Sneakers classes offered four days per week. The classes are taught mostly sitting in a chair and focus on building range of motion and strength required for activities of daily living. In addition to the classes, we do senior socials and field trips throughout the year.

A variety of programs offered to inner-city youth and families at no cost. The Y On Wheels is a mobile YMCA. The program provides fitness and nutrition based programs designed to teach principles and methods of healthy physical fitness to children. The project brings the YMCA programming, mission, and values to communities and neighborhoods that do not have access to a YMCA facility or programming. In collaboration with the Live Healthy Lynchburg Initiative the project reaches out to inner city communities by offering free outreach programs that are designed to provide the Y experience for children and families who cannot afford them. Other programs include: Bright Beginnings, Angel Tree, and Healthy Kids Day. Outreach Swim lessons offered to children from inner city neighborhoods. The program works with elementary schools to identify children who need swim lessons. We provide group lessons to 2nd grade students. We collaborate with Jubilee, The High Apartments and Boy's and Girl's Club.

YMCA Camp Thunderbird enrich the community through the service of programs that provide wholesome opportunities for children and families to share, learn, accept, and grow.

Half-day programs are offered for children ages 2-5. Based on the Creative Curriculum, these programs address social, emotional, physical, cognitive and language development, embracing hands-on learning through play. Structured activities help children bond with peers and caring adults while they prepare for kindergarten.
