The Learn to Swim program offered at both the Downtown and Jamerson YMCA prepares children for swimming and learning basic safety and swimming techniques. The program also builds self confidence. There are also components designed to develop the whole person through five specific components of personal safety, stroke development, water sports, and games, personal growth, and rescue. This program provides for social, health/fitness, athletic, cultural and educational opportunities for participants between the ages of 18 and 54.

The Colonial Heights Department of Recreation & Parks sponsors a variety of summer programs. Summer programs are available for individuals ranging in ages of 5-17 years old. Programs begin in late June and end in early August.

Miracle League provides children with intellectual, visual, or physical diverseabilities the opportunity to play baseball. All games will be played at the LC Bird Athletics Complex in Chesterfield County.

The Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia's Special Needs Program offers unique programming for individuals with special needs. The program is designed to develop physical and social skills by uniquely combining therapeutic sessions with inclusion programs. The program features small participant-staff ratios and offers social programs, family events and recreational social skills classes. During the pandemic, programs are primarily offered virtually, however, social skills classes are offered in-person with safety measures in place.

Provides leisure time activities for persons 50 years and older - includes senior activities, day trips, special seasonal activities, crafts, music and more.

Provides overnight facilities for conferences, retreats, and camping. Environmental education programs for school groups, special programs for youth at risk, and 4-H youth camping is offered during the months of June-August. A rental facility for private picnics is also available on weekends.

Schedules community use of Fairfax County Park Authority athletic fields, and Fairfax County Public School athletic fields and gyms. Refers sports participants to appropriate community organizations. Coordinates the County's Youth Scholarship Program for low-income families and the Turf Development Program to help sports organizations replace grass athletic fields with synthetic or artificial surfaces. Operates the Hershey Track Meet and Culmore Summer Soccer Camp.
Offers a variety of sports for youth and adults.
Gives grieving children and teens (ages 4-18) the opportunity to be with others their age who are also experiencing significant loss, guided by skilled staff. Offers bereavement day camps each year. Through these camps and the on-going support groups, children discover that they are not alone and their feelings are normal. Seasonal camp activities may include art therapy, horseback riding, rope challenge courses, swimming, a petting zoo, hiking, games, a closing memorial ceremony, and more. Parents and guardians are encouraged to participate in a support group and memorial ceremony at each seasonal camp.

Special Olympics Virginia is a year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Through work in sports, health education and community building, Special Olympics is addressing inactivity, injustice, intolerance and social isolation by encouraging and empowering people with intellectual disabilities which leads to a more welcoming and inclusive society.
Offers a range of programs for elementary-aged youth and other activities for the whole family. These programs are meant to give the child experience playing with others in a safe environment or present your family an opportunity to learn, play and grow together.
Provide programs like Before- and After-School Child Care, Day Camps, Swimming and Swim Lessons, Family Activities, Sports for adults and children, Health and Exercise, specialty programs for teens and older adults.

A social drop-in center (no appointment needed) for mental health consumers. Provides a safe, consumer run alternative for the purpose of socialization, self help, advocacy, recreation and education. Operates primarily during the time traditional providers of mental-health services are closed. Employs consumers of mental health services as staff with the belief that they can provide services for individuals, making their own lives more productive and meaningful, while enriching the lives of others. Sponsors support groups such as the Peer Support Group, Veteran's Support Group, Wellness Recovery Action Plan Workshops, Codependents Anonymous, Music Group, and Dual Recovery Anonymous; a 12-step program for people with both substance abuse and mental health issues. Provides activities such as bingo, chess and checkers, cook outs, karaoke, holiday activities and more. Veterans Group on Mondays at 1pm.
