This office helps City departments to better serve Limited English Proficient (LEP) customers by providing oral interpretation services in Spanish/English. Language line services are available for other languages. Also provides assistance to City departments by translating written documents and forms from English to Spanish.

Coordinates and refers qualified interpreters and computer assisted real-time translation (CART) aka captioning for the deaf and hard of hearing for the state agencies and the court system. The interpreter services program also publishes a Directory of Qualified Interpreters. The Directory includes contact information for interpreters in Virginia who meet the definition of a qualified interpreter. VDDHH distributes the Directory to consumers and service providers to assist in securing qualified interpreters for various assignments. IRC offers low cost immigration services to the general community including applications for legal permanent residence (green cards) and U.S. citizenship. IRC also offers interpretation services to many private and public organizations and agencies through the area with more than 50 trained community interpreters speaking 15 different languages.
