Provides a County Animal Shelter that operates under guidelines from the Commonwealth of Virginia to temporarily house stray or injured animals, provide for adoption of as many animals as possible and to humanely follow procedures for euthanasia for unwanted animals. The Shelter strives to encourage, promote, and preserve responsible pet ownership and to prevent any form of cruelty to animals.
A group of volunteers providing regular open visitation hours to the public in hopes of increasing the chances that the shelter animals of Giles County will be adopted instead of euthanized. The Giles County Animal Shelter is under jurisdiction of Giles County Sheriff Department. Volunteers at the shelter at the invitation of the Giles County Board of Supervisors, the Sheriff's Dept and Giles County Animal Control. Offers low cost spay/neuter and placement services for pets. Giles County Animal Shelter Call the shelter directly at 540-921-2053. The physical address for the Giles County Animal Shelter is 678 Green Hollow Rd, Pearisburg, Virginia 24136. The shelter is open Monday-Saturday 12pm-4pm or by appointment with an Animal Control Officer. Officers may be paged through their dispatch by calling 540-921-3842. Adoptions during the week are done by appointment only.

Receives stray and owner relinquished animals from Roanoke City, Roanoke County, Botetourt County and the Town of Vinton and is an open intake facility. Primarily handles stray animals picked up by the Animal Control Officers employed by the municipalities, but also accepts strays that are found, and animals owned, by citizens of the municipalities served. Does NOT have a veterinarian on staff and is unable to provide medical care for pets owned by the public. If a pet is ill or injured, please visit a personal veterinarian. Has an adoption program, works with rescue organizations and has a foster program.

Provides a humane society for Madison County. The Madison County Humane Society has a limited selection of dogs and cats. Assist other area shelters and take animals from individuals. All of these animals need someone with whom to share their lives. Appropriate homes are located for these animals after the animals receive necessary medical attention and are spayed/neutered. Adoptions are currently done at Fairlakes PetSmart & Potomac Yards PetSmart. Also offers spay/neuter assistance to individuals. The Madison County Humane Society needs you! Donate money or time to help the homeless animals in Madison County.
The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria operate the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter, an open-admission facility accepting any and all animals brought to us from within the jurisdiction. AWLA have made a commitment to help animals in need with the help of the community. AWLA care for more than 2,000 animals per year, including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, iguanas and chinchillas. Specially-trained staff also assist area wildlife that have been injured or are in distress, with the ultimate goal of releasing them back into their natural habitat or transferring them to licensed wildlife rehabilitators for care and eventual release.
