Employment and Career Services - Chesapeake, Employment Training, STOP Inc

STOP'S Workforce Development Program provides opportunities for participants to engage in in-demand training and certification that is relevant and accessible. This program was designed with the goal of earning a living wage for low-income households and individuals. All course content prepares participants to earn a leading national certification. This includes prep sessions and assistance with scheduling the exam for certification. Upon certification, participants will be assisted with securing gainful employment. Employment Supportive Services offers personal training in acquiring techniques necessary for seeking and maintaining a job. Services include interview techniques, job retention, employment counseling, referral and/or placement application completion, resume writing, and job readiness training. All participants in the program must be willing to pursue the necessary educational opportunities to enhance their employment skills. In addition, STOP provides bus tickets to participants of this program in an effort to assist participants in obtaining and retaining employment.

The program, operated through local One-Stop Career Centers, provides adults age 18 and over with workforce preparation and talent development services and helps employers find the skilled workers they need. Workers and job seekers are assisted with searching for a job and researching labor market trends and demands to better evaluate career choices. Participants are also provided with occupational and technical skills training, GED preparation, continuing adult education, and employment placement services.

Goodwill Academy focuses on the basic skills needed to get and keep a job - with any employer or as an entrepreneur. Each participant in the Academy is assigned a Career Advisor to identify goals and coordinate their ongoing development. Each student in the Academy works with their Advisor to create a clear, well-communicated development plan and receives paid learning hours (on-the-job and classroom). Outside of the classroom, learning opportunities include job shadowing and internships in every area of the organization.

DBVI provides services and resources which empower individuals who are blind, vision impaired or deafblind to achieve their desired levels of employment, education, and personal independence.
