Offers a community based mentoring program that addresses the problems of unequal access to higher education by low income and/or potential first generation college or post secondary students. Skyline CAP offers this program in collaboration with Madison County High School. In the local program, Skyline's Project Discovery students meet for workshops once a week to explore their options for life after high school. Participants are encouraged to take the hardest classes in which they can do well, and be involved in school and community activities. They also have the opportunity to visit at least three colleges or trade schools each year. College bound students are also encouraged to apply for at least twenty scholarships.

The Veterans Education Training and Employment (VETE) directorate of the Virginia Department of Veterans Services ensures that every veteran or eligible person has a full and fair opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential through access to the G.I. Bill approved post-secondary educational, training/licensure/certification, entrepreneurial institutions, V3 certified employers and Virginia Colleges and Universities. Currently, more than 1000 institutions with various programs are approved in Virginia. The Community Foundation administers a growing number of endowed scholarship funds that were established by individuals and organizations wishing to assist Central Virginia graduating high school seniors and adult learners pursue post-secondary education.
This fund is to assist individuals who are legally blind who want to further their education through scholastics or in the trade industry, the Old Dominion Eye Foundation will award scholarships and/or equipment assistance grants to qualified applicants.
The Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge offers over 100 scholarship opportunities. Scholarships benefit graduating high school seniors and adult learners seeking new skills and higher education, and includes the pursuit of a technical certificate at a community college or trade school, associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or graduate degree.
Awards merit-based scholarships ranging from $1000-$5000. Requires 3 years of federal or postal service, a 3.0 grade point average and enrollment in a post-secondary degree granting program. Not available to active duty or retired military families unless civilian employment requirement is also met.
The primary purpose of the Virginia Teaching Scholarship Loan Program (VTSLP) is to provide financial support to students who are preparing to teach in one of Virginia's critical shortage teaching areas. Provides an incentive to students interested in pursuing a teaching career in critical shortage teaching areas in Virginia. Students who are currently enrolled on a full- or part-time basis in a Virginia approved teacher preparation program in a critical shortage teaching area are eligible to be nominated for the program by their college or university.

Project Discovery works with middle and high school students in Tazewell County providing workshops & activities in career exploration and college preparation, cultural and recreation events, and visits to colleges and universities. Students must be first-generation college students to be eligible to participate. A new community initiative is our College Fair. The Fair hosts representatives from the following colleges, universities and other post-secondary opportunities: Bluefield University, Bluefield State University, Concord University, Old Dominion University, East Tennessee State University, Tusculum University, Wytheville Community College, King University, University of Virginia, Southwest Virginia Community College, National Guard and Tri-County Driving Academy. This one-day event allows high school students to learn about available opportunities and options to continue their education.

Counselors are experts in all options available, to catch up missed payments, cure defaults, defer payments and reduce payments. The Foundation makes financial grants to eligible non-profit organizations providing health-related services to Bedford residents and for scholarships to increase the availability of health service workers.

Assists Fairfax County Public School students with acquiring financial aid for post-secondary education. Helps place part-time Financial Aid Champions in schools with highest populations of students receiving free or reduced lunches. Assists students and parents with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other financial aid applications, and holds FAFSA workshops. Also hosts financial aid seminars in fall and early winter, and assists students with scholarship searches and applications.
