Counseling-Guidance - North Tazewell, Project Discovery, Clinch Valley Community Action

Project Discovery works with middle and high school students in Tazewell County providing workshops & activities in career exploration and college preparation, cultural and recreation events, and visits to colleges and universities. Students must be first-generation college students to be eligible to participate. A new community initiative is our College Fair. The Fair hosts representatives from the following colleges, universities and other post-secondary opportunities: Bluefield University, Bluefield State University, Concord University, Old Dominion University, East Tennessee State University, Tusculum University, Wytheville Community College, King University, University of Virginia, Southwest Virginia Community College, National Guard and Tri-County Driving Academy. This one-day event allows high school students to learn about available opportunities and options to continue their education.

Application process

Walk-ins and telephone referrals accepted. Due to safety issues and confidentiality, participants may request to meet staff off site or have materials sent to them by mail.

A private non-profit corporation established in 1965. The primary service area is Tazewell County with limited services provided in Bland County, Buchanan County, Russell County, Smyth County and Wythe County. Locally managed and governed by a Board of Directors for the purpose of eliminating poverty and promoting self-sufficiency. One third of the Board of Directors are local elected officials or their designees, one third are representatives of local businesses or civic organizations, and one third are representatives of low-income communities.
