Literacy Programs - Roanoke, Blue Ridge Literacy

Provides confidential tutoring and classes, including remote services, for adults, free of charge with a one-time registration fee, using trained instructors and volunteers. One-to-one tutoring is available for any adult who wants to improve his or her literacy ability. This program serves non-native English speakers. ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes are available for non-native English speakers. Offers five levels of English classes (Pre-Beginner, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Post-Advanced), as well as specialized classes and citizenship classes throughout the year.

Education Literacy Children - Charlottesville, McGuffey Reading Center, University of Virginia

Offers diagnostic and remedial services for children with reading difficulties. A full reading diagnosis is conducted every M & T periodically during the academic year. In addition, interviews are held with parents to establish history and case background. Instruction is on a one-to-one basis. Does not offer direct tutor services, but maintains list of available tutors.
